1. Define lumped and distributed elements with examples.


2. Define armature reaction in DC Machine.
3. Why transformers ratings are specified in KVA instead of KW.
4. Write any two constructional differences between DC generator and AC
generator.
5. Write the working principle of DC servo motor.
6. Draw the input and output voltage wave forms of Half wave rectifier.
PART-B

1. Find the current flowing through 4 by using mesh analysis and also
calculate the power consumed by 80 resistor for the following circuit.

2. a) Explain the constructional parts of DC generator with neat sketch. (6M)

b) A dc generator develops an emf of 220V at 1000 rpm with a flux per pole

is 0.04 Wb. What will be the flux value to induce the 240 volts at

1400 rpm? (6M)

3. a) Explain OC and SC test of single phase transformer. (5M)
b) A 1-phase transformer has 400 primary and 100 secondary turns. The
net cross-sectional area of the core is 60 cm2. If the primary winding is
connected to a 50 Hz supply at 520V. Calculate
i. Peak value of flux density in the core
ii. Voltage induced in the secondary winding
iii. Transformation ratio
iv. EMF induced per turn in both the windings (7M)

4. a) Sketch and explain the torque-slip characteristics of a 3-phase induction


motor? (6M)
b) Explain the construction and operation of Capacitor start single phase
induction motor. (6M)

5. Explain the construction and operation of stepper motor, and List the
applications of stepper motor. (12M)

6. a) Explain the forward and reverse biasing of PN junction diode. (6M)


b) Explain V-I characteristics of SCR. (6M)
