Introduction
Art to me is my language to the outside world and to be able to communicate about how I feel in

my personal pieces gives me great joy. In some of my personal pieces they are depicting emotion

that runs from my soul within.

Our Caribbean island are filled with many different cultures, language , clothes etc. In my island

ST. Vincent And The Grenadines we are people who enjoys music and art. I hear calypso from

our local artist which bring me happiness to see our own people enjoying themselves with music

that there have passion for. Then we have art in their calypsonian costumes or their prom to

emphasise on what they are singing about that is considered art. We also show art in our carnival

where designer would make costume on their theme their promoting

The expressive forms that I have chosen are paining and mixed media and graphic design. These

two forms and bring out my creatively and artistic view in my artwork.
A brief history of art in the Caribbean

In most Caribbean island , Expressive form of art has a wide range of visual , media , colour etc.
Most Caribbean islands has their own uniqueness and rhyme to their art work. Each one has a
distinct meaning that also connect with the country.
Caribbean Art has a combination of different influences such as British, Spanish, Dutch and
Africa, but our main inspirations is from out ancestors who were our first settlers.

(this image above is called a hieroglyphs that our ancestors used to represent themselves)
Now in the morden time Art in the Caribbean , has increase is different ways to express our
culture for instance,
I have selected expressive form painting and mixed media and Communication Graphic designs
to bring my theme rhyme is the journey to life
I feel these to forms can help me to bring our the essence of my theme in a much more creative
and artistic way.
Painting and mixed media- I have chosen painting and mixed media because being able to paint
is having your imagination come alive.
This form can help build my focus and detail to my work every time I have to paint and then the
mixed media bring it out more realistic.
Communication and Graphic designs The reason why I have chosen graphic design helps me
to explore the world of communication and designs. I have always wonder why certain poster or
phablets had always caught my attention, with graphics designs we able to understand .
Biography of my Painting and Mixed media Artist

Biographical sketch of Lennox Dinks Johnson

Lennox Dinks Johnson is a Vincentian artiste extraordinaire. He was born in Mt. Bentick, Georgetown,
on the island of St. Vincent. He is 64 years old.

He cannot identify anything in particular that sparked his interest in Art. He remembers drawing with
pencils and crayons from early age. It was in him, and he grew older, he became even more interested
in Art.

He uses mainly oil as his medium. He never attended art school, and therefore does not have any
formal training in art. He describes himself as self-taught, although he has studied the paintings of many
others. His favourite painter is Rembranbt, although locally, Dr. Vivian Child always inspired him.

He remembers being asked by a local pediatrician, to draw paintings of babies. In one of drawings, dinks,
depicted a painting of a nurse who was weighing a baby. In that picture, you could see through the
open door, and the plants from the outside, which were painted, gave real life to the painting.
However, dinks describes as his favouriite artwork, two pieces that he did several years ago; one of an
Alsatian dog, and another, portrait he did of the late Donna Young.

He identifies his art as photo-realisms in that his art, even though they are paintings, looks very much
like photos. However, he does a variety of styles.

He looks at life through artistic lens. For example, he looks at a garden and identifies several shades of
green, where the non-artistic eye may only green trees. He is able to identify several shades of green on
the same tree. He sees morning colours as more vibrant, more alive, more lush than evening colours.
He takes special interest in examining clouds, their sizes, shapes and formations. He likes to memorise
these and to replicate them in his art studio.

I was so inspired to spend an evening with this amazing artist and going through his vast collections of
paintings.
Analysis of the Selected Artists Works

This painting about a girl picking up hibiscus. The girl in the painting is brown skin,
she is wearing a little white dress with black flowers at the ends of her dress, she
also wears a straw hat that has a yellow and red hibiscus on top of. she
outreached her hands to give us her flower as a sign our kindness. In the
background, we can clearly see part of a house which signal that could be hers.
we also see trees around her so we can assume it is a meadow the girl is picking
her flowers. The background colour gives us a nice cosy effects. The tress in the
background dont have any lines which gives it no shaped but the variaions and
pattern of the green helps to identify it as green.
We have two people kitesurfing in the ocean. They see to be racing of some sort. There are diffent types
of variation of cold colours the painting shows a contrast of light and dark colours. They are lines in
the painting to show the effect of the water.
This painting is of St. Vincent and the Grenadines from our artist point of perspective. The artist is
showing the transition of day to dawn. We see cool colours going towards the warm colours. He subtlety
changes colour , value and details to provide a real sense of being present in the tropical climate in the
greandines.

New Years

This was the topic I had chosen form my art piece. New years to me means staring over a new chapter in
your life and to celebrate it. So, I began to sketch out my ideas in my head and figue out how am I going
to express myself.

I did some research on new year and found out about many different cultures about how they celebrate
the new years. I found out in New York they have fireworks and a big giant ball. Then in japan they put
flowers in the river to welcome new beginnings.

After doing my research I put together all these cultures and merge them into one .

Description

At the top the painting I painted a dark sky, then proceeded to outline the cities with fabric paint. Then
at the bottom I painting the river. After painting the river, I went back to the top and outlining my
firework with different colours of paint (red, yellow and green) then in the middle of the fireworks I put
silver sequence to give it an effect. I also stuck on some star and put glitter around them to look like it
was a shooting star.

I cut up some yellow paper in to square shape and put them on the inside of my towers to made look
like windows an at the bottom of the cites I have a curvy material as my railing for my river , I also put
the reflection of the firework on the river and I also made flower like ambrosia. I also have at the bottom
os my painting is a another railing and I painted a man by the railing.
My second painting and mixed media , is Twist and turns . when upon receiving this topic it got me
thinking about our lives the trials we faced everyday and the consequence of our action. We all have
challenges to face we will see coming and others will arrive out of left field.

Description

In the middles of my drawing I painted a tree and also put a ribbon, At the bark of my tree to the root as
night or our greatest fear in life. In my case I am afraid of the dark. And from the branches and up is the
day or the joy we face in our lives.

At the top I painted yellow for yellow signifies happy and joyful and also have the variation of the yellow
to empahsize on my tree. My braches are light brown with a bit of shade. A t the bottom I painted it
midnight blue and put emphaisze on the tress as well.
My third one is fantasy when this topic hit I was mind blown . I am someone who has fantasy
everyday so coming up with one paint was difficult. My interest was peak when reading anout the
fountain of youth and how none has gone but never return,

Description

At the top I have a beautiful shunset above the seas and at the bottom of the sea I have my Fountain of
youth. That is being guarded by my medusa snake and a mud monster. For my snkae I used old leather
material and for the mud monster I used wool. Also for the sea floor I added snad to give some texture
for the floor,
