The forms of the verb to be as a main verb are: Am, Is, Are.

CONTRACTIONS
In English contractions are very common. A contraction is when two words become one. A contraction is a shortened
version of the written and spoken forms of a word, syllable, or word group, created by omission of internal letters. Usually
we use an apostrophe ().

USES OF THE VERB BE The verb to be has different uses according to the information you want to request:

IDENTIFICATION She is Brenda, her last name is Larson.

ORIGIN I am from Boston. They are from Yopal.
OCCUPATION He is a doctor. We are bakers.
WEATHER It is hot and sunny. It is raining.
FEELINGS We are not sad. They are happy.
AGE I am twenty years old. He is ten years old.
LOCATION They are in the classroom. I am in my house.

WHEN TO SAY "A" OR "AN"

The indefinite article is a or an. But how do we know when to say a and when to say an?
The rule is really very simple. It depends on the sound at the start of the following word. (It does not depend on the way we write
the following word, it depends on the way we say it.)

A + consonant sound AN + vowel sound

The importance of sound

Normally, we pronounce consonant letters with a consonant sound, and vowel letters with a vowel sound. But there are some
exceptions. The rule about a or an is still the same. You just need to think about the sound, not the writing. Look at these examples:
