Link Jesus’ Resurrection to the Church

Jesus Really Died on the Cross

The soldiers came and broke the legs of the
two men who had been crucified with Jesus,
first the one and then the other. But when
they came to Jesus and saw that he was
already dead, they did not break his legs.

But one of the soldiers pierced his side with

a spear, and blood and water flowed out
immediately. And the person who saw it has
testified (and his testimony is true, and he
knows that he is telling the truth), so that
you also may believe.

For these things happened so that the

scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of
his will be broken.” And again another
scripture says, “They will look on the one
whom they have pierced.” John 19:32-37

Where was
Jesus’ spirit
after death?

Some think that 1 Peter 3:18-20

teaches that Christ preached
to imprisoned spirits then.

A better interpretation of those

verses is that Christ preached
through Noah to the
unbelieving of his age, and so
was a man who suffered for
doing good.

More on this

1 Peter 3:18-20

Preaching to the Spirits in Prison

For it is better, if it is the will of God,

to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust,
that He might bring us to God,
in the spirit,
being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
in which
by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,
who formerly were disobedient,
when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days
of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few,
that is eight souls, were saved through water.

Where was
Jesus’ spirit
after death?

Then [the thief] said, “Jesus,

remember me when you come
in your kingdom.”

And Jesus said to him, “I tell

you the truth, today you will
be with me in paradise.”

Luke 23:42-43

Then Jesus came up and said to

Therefore go and make disciples
