Computer Applications I & II

Course Description: Computer Applications is a one-year course that will introduce the student to Microsoft Office,
Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The course is designed to introduce these concepts within the context of a
business education program so that all learned concepts are immediately applicable the workplace.
Course Objectives: General Course Objectives:
1. Identify terms and concepts as they apply to computer systems and computer software.
2. Use a computer to research, retrieve, and share information.
3. Create and modify documents using word processing software.
4. Create and modify workbooks using spreadsheet software.
5. Create and modify databases using database management system software.
6. Create and modify presentations using presentation graphics software.

Learning Microsoft Office 2007 Deluxe
Pearson, Prentice-Hall DDC

Course Materials:
1. Textbook (assigned – stays in room)
2. Flash Drive (at least 2GB recommended)
3. Pen – blue or black ink

1. Hardware and Software Concepts
2. Microsoft Windows
3. Microsoft Word
4. Microsoft Excel
5. Microsoft PowerPoint
6. Microsoft Access
7. Microsoft Outlook
Description of Assignments, Tests, and Extra Credits:
1. Do Now Assignments (Computer Terms), daily, 50 points
2. Textbook Assignments (may be modified for instruction), 100 pts
3. Arts Integration / Enrichment Assignments (designed to integrate arts into instruction), 100 pts
4. Independent Projects (designed to allows student individuality within task completion), 100 pts
5. Quizzes – Administered during the course of a unit (100 points each), 100 pts
6. Quarterly and Semester Exams – Administered at the end of the quarter and semester, 250 pts
Attendance and Late Work:
1. The district policy is followed on attendance. If a student accumulates more than 9 unexcused absences during
a semester, they will receive an “F” for attendance.
2. Late work will not be accepted for unexcused absences.
3. For excused absences, students will have 1 week to turn in replacement work.
Course Requirements:
1. Given a definition, the learner will identify the matching term as it relates to computer systems and computer
software.
2. Given a description, the learner will identify the matching concept as it relates to computer systems and
computer software.
3. Given the parameters of an essay, the learner will use a computer to research, retrieve, and share information.
4. Given a description of the desired result, the learner will demonstrate skills required to design, create, and
modify a word processing document.
5. Given a description of the desired result, the learner will demonstrate skills required to design, create, and
modify an electronic workbook.
6. Given a description of the desired result, the learner will demonstrate skills required to design, create, and
modify a database and its various objects. 1
7. Given a description of the desired result, the learner will demonstrate skills required to design, create, and
modify a presentation utilizing presentation graphics software.
8. Given a description of the desired result, the learner will demonstrate skills required to integrate word
processing documents, electronic workbooks, databases, presentation graphics, and email.
