Opening (activator/instant activity)

On the whiteboard, write down the various parts of the digestive system. Ask the students to put
the parts in the order that the food travels.
1. Mouth
2. Esophagus
3. Stomach
4. Small Intestine
5. Large Intestine
6. Anus
Procedures Step by step description of teaching strategies/methods/pedagogy to be used.
(Include time frame for each activity, transitions, extensions/adaptations, cooperative learning
techniques jig saw, pair/share, etc.)
1. Have the students get their chromebooks 1 row of desks at a time so there is not chaos by
the chromebook cart.
2. Put the code for the presentation on the board and have the students log into nearpod
3. Explain that the students are going to be working alone and following the presentation at
their own pace.
a. If they want to spread out in the classroom to get into their own space, they can.
4. Walk around the room while the students are going through the presentation and answer
questions as they arise.
5. If students finish before class is over, have them work on the digestion packet that they
received in a previous class.
6. With 5 minutes left in class, have students place their chromebooks back in the cart to
charge.

List Assessment(s) informal or formal how do you know they have learned the desired
content and you have achieved your objectives?
Formal - The questions and quiz on the nearpod presentation.
Informal - Walk around the room to make sure students are on track.

Closure/Summarizer
Have students give one example of something new that they learned today.

Notes/Reflection (to be completed right after you finish teaching a particular lesson)
What did you accomplish? How much did the students learn? What would you leave the same
and what might you change in the future to improve this lesson?

It was interesting to have the students work on the nearpod presentation at their own pace rather
than me present it directly to them. I liked the fact that they were able to go at their own speed
and get a chance to fully understand the material. It was easy to see if the students were on task
because I could just stay towards the back of the classroom and see if they were still on the
presentation on their computer screens. The students for the most part met the objectives that I
set for class because I was able to read their responses and see the answers that they gave on the
quiz. One thing that I did not like about this was that they were able to move back to the slides
when they were completing the quiz to look up the answers. I would rather have them have to
complete the quiz by memory, but this is just how the software works. I would keep this a
student paced lesson in the future but I would make up my own quiz to give at the end of class
based on the slides and have the students complete it on paper.
