St Spyridon
On the Incarnation of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ
...Together with the belief in the Holy Trinity, the Doctrine of
the Incarnation occupies a central position in the Teaching
of the Orthodox Church.
According to Orthodox Faith, our Lord Jesus is much more
than a Pious Man or a profound Teacher of morality.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Eternal Word and Son of God,
Who became the Son of Man.
The Doctrine of the Incarnation is an expression of the
Experience of our Lord Jesus Christ of His Holy Church.
In Him, Divinity is United with humanity - without the
destruction of either Reality.
Jesus Christ is Truly God, Who shares in the same Reality
as the Father and the Holy Spirit.
Moreover, He is Truly Man, Who shares with us all that is
human but without our ability to sin!
The Church believes that, as the Unique God-Man, Jesus
Christ has Restored humanity to Fellowship with God.
By manifesting (revealing) the Holy Trinity, by teaching the
meaning of authentic human life, and by conquering the
powers of sin and death through His Resurrection, Christ
is the Supreme Expression of the Love of God the Father,
for His People, made present in every age and in every
place by the Holy Spirit, through the Life of the Church.
The Great Holy Fathers of the Church summarized the
Ministry of Christ in the bold affirmation: "God God became
what we are so that we may become what He is." is

It was fitting that the Giver of all Holiness
should enter this world by a Pure and Holy Birth.
For He it is that of old formed Adam from the virgin Earth,
and from Adam produced Woman,
So did the Ever Blessed All Holy Virgin without man
this day bring forth a Man.
For it is a Man, said our Lord, and who shalt know Him.
For since the race of women owed men a debt,
as from Adam without woman, Woman came,
Therefore, without man, the All Pure Virgin
this Day brought forth Man
and on behalf of Eve, repaid the Debt to man.
That Adam might not take pride,
that he, without woman, had engendered Woman,

He was made Perfect, for in a short
time he fulfilled long years, for his
soul was pleasing to the Lord.
Therefore, He took him early from the
midst of evil.
Yet people saw that and did not
understand, nor take such a thing to
heart, that our Lords Grace and
Mercy are with His Elect, and that He
Watches over His Holy Ones.
A Festive gathering is this, and a Sacred
Banquet. Come, O Believers, let us
partake of it. Indeed, Spyridon, our
Spiritual Host, invites us to join him.
His Table is Divine, and Sweet art his
Miracles. His Deeds are Immortal.
Let us imitate his Gentleness, his
Innocence, his Simplicity, his
Humanity, his Wisdom concerning
everything. By these Virtues he
shone as a Light among Hierarchs.
Precious in the Sight of our Lord is the
Death of His Holy One.
