Introduction
Technology has become a big part of the world today. Children are being introduced to
technology at a very young age. It is important to begin to use technology in the classroom.
Using technology gets the students engaged with a topic. It is something the students are familiar
with and they enjoy using. Because students are exposed to so much technology, many times
they end up misusing the technology. As teachers it is important to teach the students how to use
technology appropriately. The students need to learn how to be wise when using technology.
The first artifact that I chose is a lesson plan that I created for a math lesson. The lesson
was about equivalent equations. The math lesson had several integrations of technology for the
students to work with. The first way I integrated technology was during my hook for the
students. I completed a Pan Balance activity with my students. I asked them for an equation that
equaled 15. I then called on students and they gave me different equations that equaled 15. The
students could look on the board and see that the scale was equal. I then told them that they
would do this activity as part of their stations for the day. The students would get to work to
make equivalent equations on their Chromebook. They could visualize when the scale was
balanced is when they had equivalent equations. Another use of technology was the document
camera. I modeled how to complete the dice activity that they were expected to complete as part
of the stations. I used the document camera, so that they could see what I was doing as opposed
to simply telling them what to do. I also incorporated FastMath as part of their stations. This is
an activity where the students practice math fluency. It collects data as to how the students are
doing in their math fluency. This is an activity that they work on frequently. I chose this artifact
because it shows the different ways technology was integrated into the classroom.

The second artifact I chose is a picture of a first grade student working on a Chromebook.
He was logging onto Frontrow where he completed different math activities that are on his level.
The program adjusts to where the students are academically in order to meet the needs of all
students. When the students complete centers in both math and reading, technology is
incorporated. The class is able to use Chromebooks twice a week. On the other days, the students
Technology is very important to integrate into the classroom It gets students engaged and
interested in the lesson that is being taught. It is a very helpful tool to use. Although it is simply
that a tool. This is something Elliot emphasized in Teach Like a Techie Technology was not
meant to teach children all that they need to know. It is made to enhance their learning (Elliot,
2011, p. 4). When students are engaged in a lesson through technology, they tend to own their
learning which helps them retain the information that is being taught. As a teacher, I cannot
avoid using technology in the classroom. It engages the students and allows them to explore a
topic deeper than I could explain it to them (Engage Students by Embracing Technology, 2017).
age. However, they are not always taught how to use technology appropriately. Many students
do not realize once something is put on the internet, it cannot be deleted. It can affect where they
go to college, if they get a job, etc. Students also need to learn that the words they put on the
internet have meaning. They need to be careful not to talk badly about someone on social media.
While this may be something that should be taught by the parents, not every parent will teach
their children how to use technology and social media wisely. But educators need to think of
ways to train todays generation to be responsible and ethical life-long learners of the digital
