B. Presentation of the Problem

Instructions to students:

In solving the following problems, the class will be divided into two groups.
The first group will be boys and the second group will be the girls.
The boys will be divided into 4 sub-groups and will answer problem no. 1
and girls will be divided into 3 sub-groups and will answer problem no. 2.
Each sub-group will answer one guide question and work cooperatively to
arrive at the final answer.

Guide Questions for Problem no. 1

1. What will be the equation of the given problem?
2. What will be the equation after substituting the value of ?
3. What are the steps/properties of equality for exponential function to be observed in
solving for the value of ?
4. What is the value of ?
Guide Questions for Problem no. 2
1. What will be the decay factor of the given problem?
2. What is the equation of the new value of the refrigerator?
3. What is the new value of the refrigerator?

Problem No. 1

Research indicates that the risk of having a car accident increases exponentially as the
concentration of alcohol in the blood increases. This is modeled by the formula
A 6e12.75 x where x is the blood alcohol concentration and A, given as a percent, is the car
accident risk. What blood alcohol concentration corresponds to 20% risk of car accident?

Possible answer: x 0.094429

Problem no. 2

Determine the new value of a refrigerator that has discounted 25% of its original
value of P12,000.00 using the decay factor.

Possible Answer: P9,000.00
