DANCE EDUCATION LESSON PLAN

GRADE LEVEL & NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 2nd grade, 30 students

TIME: 25-30 mins

EQUIPMENT: Boom box, music CD (Surfin USA by The Beach Boys-bought on iTunes), Lummi sticks

OBJECTIVES:
Psychomotor
1. The student will demonstrate a smooth transition between even-beat locomotor skills and uneven-beat
locomotor skills in response to music or an external beat.
Cognitive
1. The student will compare and contrast locomotor movements conducted to even and uneven beats.
Affective
1. The student will participate positively in physical activities that rely on cooperation.

CALIFORNIA K-5 DANCE and/or PE STANDARDS (identify whether Dance or PE, you can use both):
Introductory/Warm-up Activity: (Dance) 1.1 Show a variety of combinations of basic locomotor skills (e.g.,
walk and run, gallop and jump, hop and skip, slide and roll).

Lesson Focus: (Dance) 1.3 Perform short movement problems, emphasizing the element of time (e.g., varied
tempos, rhythmic patterns, counting).
