The objective of the benchmark study reported in this paper was to check the accuracy of
the ALPS/ULSAP methods use to calculate the ultimate strength of plate and stiffened panel,
compared with nonlinear finite element method.
The ALPS/ULSAP method was found in a good agreement with the nonlinear finite element
method computations through a wide range of panel dimensions and different loading
conditions.
The ALPS/ULSAP method is based on design formulations, the computational time required
is extremely short compared to the nonlinear finite element method. So, this will be of great
advantage in the structures design and safety assessment of ship structures comprising a
large number of plate and panels.
