The Mathematics Division, Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics fiMSP) wiil be
hosting the Search for the Outstanding Mathlete 2018 [Seccndary Level) on 24 February 201"8, lt is an
individual mathematics competition open to any secondary student from CALABARZON. It aims to
provide a venue to showcase the mathematical skills and to forge camaraderie among secondary
students from CALABARZON in a competitive but friendly manner.
In line with this, the Division is requesting your endorsement for the Search for the
Outstanding Mathlete 201"8 fSecondary LevelJ. This competition will be held on 24 February 2018,
Saturday, B AM to 5 PM at the Mathematics Building, University of the Philippines Los Bafios,
Laguna. Attached is the contest mechanics. Ycur support will tre of great contribution to the success of

The Search for Outstanding Mathlete {MATHLETE} is an individual mathematics quiz contest that
was conceptualized to provide a venue to showcase the mathematical skills and to forge camaraderie
among tertiary students from CALABARZON in a competitive but friendly manner. The Mathematics

A. Registration
1. All secondary students currently enrolled in junior high school {Grade 7-10) within Region
lV-A can join the competition.

3. Contestants may confirm their participation by filling-out the online preregistration form at
https ://tinvurl.com/Mathlete2llSreg/ or be a walk-in participaftt.
4. On the day of the competition, contestants are to present a valid school lD upon
resist!'ation.
B. Contest proper
Elimination Phase
3. Contestants will be given a 2-hour written exam consisting of 28 questions: 10 Neophyte,

4. For every incorrect answer, one-thrrci (r1Si of the aiiotreci points wiii be cieducteci
from the total score. No answer, no point.
5. The 15 hiehest scorers will advanee to the Final Phase.
FinalPhase
6. The Final Phase consists of two (2) rounds - the Amateur and Professional Rounds.
7. The following rules will be observed in the Final Phase:
a. The quiz master will read each question twice.
