Art express
Main topics/themes
This lesson will comprise of two parts: Finalisation of experimental photography and introduction to
Installation. That is, students will have the opportunity to look at the work of their peers in previous
session and begin to engage in critique by talking about the successes of the artwork and the process
used to develop it. Students will then be introduced to installation art and be set the task of developing
their own Installation via a suggested theme using recourses gathered from the school.
Learning intention
By the end of this session students will have been introduced to installation as an art for and have the
opportunity to develop and plan their own. Students will also begin to engage in group critique which
they will then potentially apply to their installation artworks.
Teaching objectives
During this lesson I would like to strengthen my differentiated teaching approach. In particular,
scaffolding lower students and using appropriate language that extends their abilities.
Process
After the role students will be asked to get out their journals for note taking ad be given a copy of the
work they produced which they will be asked to stick into their journals. The scanner work from
previous sessions will be projected and then discussed as a class. Students will use this conversation as a
platform for discussing their own work in the form of annotations.
Students will be given sufficient time to complete this task and will then be shown a pp on Installation
artworks this form of installation will be connected to the previous scanner work. Students will then be
given instruction on the new task as well as the formula for assessment.
Students are to develop a plan for a create an installation artwork using recourse from around the
school following one of the following themes:
Sustainability
Self-portrait
painting or
Social commentary
They will develop ideas through discussion and research then write, draw or map out a plan for their
creation. Including material list and then produce the artwork this may be done collaborative
Students will be given a copy of this task to stick in journals. students will be given the recourses and
time to plan in class however some research will need to take place at home.
Installation art
Task: Create Installation art work using one of the following themes
Painting,
sustainability
Self-portrait or
Social commentary
Step 2. Create!
Document your process by taking notes and photographs for journal.
Step 3. Reflect
Annotations on the success and areas for potential development will be done in journal.
Success criteria
It is an expectation of this task that students will plan the
artwork before creating it and then reflect on the final
product. If working in groups students will need to
contribute equally and put in as much effort as those
working individually. Students will be given a copy of this
task to stick in journals. students will be given the
recourses and time to plan in class. However, some
research will need to take place at home.
