P Online Activity Students will be required to download the 3D model of our
e Solar System app called Solar Walk Lite - Planetarium 3D:
d Planets, Satellites App from the Apple App Store (the app is
a free). Once students have access to the app, they will then
g explore our Solar System by looking at each planet, which
o holds information that can be used for the online scavenger
g hunt. In this app, students will learn about the order of the
y planets, information about the planets (ex. Venus was named
after the Roman goddess of love and beauty), what the planets
locations are in real time, each planets figures (density, mass,
etc.), what their cores look like, and real pictures of the planets.
As the teacher, if students are having trouble downloading the
app, they can contact me on Edmodo.

After students have reviewed the 3D model of our Solar System


and the information that each planet holds, they will be
required to do an online scavenger hunt of the Solar System,
starting with the Sun and ending with the dwarf planet Pluto.
This will be an online homework assignment that can be found
in their school discussion board on Edmodo. They will be using
online resources, along with the information from the Solar
System app, to help them look up information that is required
to answer the questions on the worksheet. After they are
finished, they will be sharing not only a copy of their scavenger
hunt information in a Word document, but also join an online
discussion board of what they learned from the assignment in
one paragraph, which is 4 -5 sentences (ex. they learned that
the Sun is exactly 4.6 billion years old). They will also respond to
at least 1-2 other students in the discussion board.

By doing this assignment, they will learn about the different


planets in our Solar System, the order they are in (starting with
the Sun and ending with Pluto), how to conduct research to
retrieve information that will help them with future
assignments, and to properly convey an idea in a short
paragraph (4-5 sentences).

As the teacher, I will be monitoring the discussion board and


responding to some of the students on what they learned about
the Solar System. If students need assistance, they can message
me on Edmodo.
