Our activities
Working at sea is our business. It is a highly specialised activity, requiring exceptional skills
and unusual plant, the highest standards of environmental care, and a special alertness
for safety. We work at the water line, and just as well on the bottom of the sea: not only
operating on the high seas, but also in the surf zone between land and water. Tideway is a
full service provider, aiming to share its experience and to be your reliable partner.

Our clients are our partners. We are looking for building up win-win
situations. Partnering is a crucial element of our corporate philosophy.
Together we share common risks and mutual benefits. Instead of hit-and-run
assignments, we go for long-term partnering agreements.

Tideway is a full service provider, offering a variety of techniques, disciplines,

equipment and skills. We are an independent company for offshore activities,
operating under the Dutch flag, but sharing the flag of the world-leading
Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering Group (DEME).

Landfalls
Tideway is a specialist in constructing landfalls for oil and gas pipelines. Working in coastal
waters requires both strength and power to resist forces of nature yet at the same time very
small draught when working close to the beach. For this unusual combination of strength
and fragility we assign both heavy plant, including formidable ocean-going dredgers and
land-based equipment.

Tideway has extensive experience in the field of constructing landfalls. We work for all Some recent achievements

Offshore dredging
Offshore Dredging encompass pre-trenching, pre-sweeping, sandwave removal prior
pipelay and glory hole dredging. These activities require high precision in line with the high
standards of safety, quality and environmental care.

Tideway commands one of the most modern and versatile dredging fleets in the industry, Some recent achievements
with vessels in every size and segment. That flexibility is exactly what clients expect in
meeting their needs as oil and gas operators. Husky Oil / White Rose

Consider the offshore trenching and backfilling we did for the Woodside Pluto LNG project Excavation of two Glory Holes
in Australia. Burying a big diameter pipeline under the sea bottom in a cyclone infested
area over a distance of 40 km offshore is not a given. Tideway assigned one of its biggest Woodside / Pluto LNG Project -
trailing suction hopper dredgers to the Pluto project. Or just take our offshore dredging Western Australia
operations at the Thornton Wind Turbine Farm off the Belgian coast, in one of the highest Offshore trench dredging and

Precision rock placement
Offshore platforms and pipelines are valuable, yet vulnerable installations. The highest care is
required for their protection. Protection is assigned to only the most experienced companies,
that know what it is to work in this environment. Tideway is an expert company in precision
rock placement. IIt has long-term experience on a worldwide basis. High tech fallpipe vessels
are the plant of choice, with a proved capacity of precision work up to 2,000 m or more
under the water surface.

As a precision rock placement contractor, Tideway works for oil and gas operators all Some recent achievements

Seabed preparation
Seabed preparation is a special application for rock placement. It calls for a close
co-operation with the main contractor, consultant and the client, and requires knowing and
feeling the ins and outs. Tideway has built-up an extensive experience in seabed preparation,
thanks to contracts all over the world.

The main clients for seabed preparation contracts are pipe-laying companies and oil and Some recent achievements
gas operators. However, the same techniques are applied in other markets, such as port
construction or in the offshore wind farm industry. Before the mighty foundation towers
could be sunk at the Thornton Wind Turbine Farm off the Belgian coast, the seabed had Global / PEMEX - KUMAZA
to be levelled and a gravel bed for stabilisation had to be laid. Also at the Le Havres Port C Project, Pre-lay support -
2000, the seabed was levelled to a tolerance of approx. 10 cm before the two massive Gulf of Mexico
concrete caissons that close off the breakwaters, could be positioned. Stabilisation / Protection of 24 and

Power cable installation
Tideway has the specialised knowledge, experience and techniques that are required for the
installation of high voltage marine power cables. Tideway manages the complete installation
process, including route preparation, pre-lay dredging, trenching, cable laying, protection of
crossings, and landfalls.

Two recent power cable installation assignments are undisputed world-firsts. Laying the Some recent achievements
576 km high voltage NorNed power cable between Norway and the Netherlands was
a world record length. Installation of a power cable from the Thornton far-shore wind THV Seawind Windfarm
turbine farm to the continent, and the laying of infield cables between the turbines proper Thornton Bank - Belgium
was unseen if only for the distance from the coast, the depth of the sea at the wind Cable Lay
farm, and the complexity of fairways, pipelines and telecom- or power cables that had to
be crossed. Statnett / NorNed HVDC kabel
Project - Norway
Both projects fit in broader trends. The NorNed cable is an excellent example of linking Installation of a submarine
national grids across sea barriers and opening trading opportunities that did not exist HVDC cable between Norway
before in this case between hydro-electrical and fossil fuelled energy. Laying power and The Netherlands
cables inside and from a far-shore wind farm is equally pioneering. Both trends open up Pretrenching Wadden Sea
perspectives for similar assignments in the future.
BritNed Interconnector Project
Pre- and postlay rockdumping
Promoting green energy and construction of offshore wind farms is on the way up, from
services for cable/pipeline crossing
the Americas to Europe and China. Similarly, Tideway is and has been involved in sea-
protection Works
crossing projects that link oil or gas producing sites with consuming countries (Europipe,
Zeepipe, Interconnector, Medgaz, Nordstream, Bluestream, Greenstream, etc.).
The same is true for interconnecting power cables: just like NorNed links the Norwegian
and Dutch national grids, BritNed will link the electrical power grids of Great-Britain and
The Netherlands across the North Sea.

For the client, it is an advantage to rely on a full service provider like Tideway. At the
Thornton project, Tideway and DEME were responsible for all marine and offshore
activities, providing a single contact desk for the client. As for the NorNed cable
installation, Tideway successfully carried out the cable laying, as well as the landfalls (one
of which was in the environmentally sensitive Wadden Sea), sea bottom clearing, dredging
a fairway for the cable laying vessel, lowering the cable by means of fluidisation by jetting
of the sea bottom along the cable route, and rock placement near sub-sea crossings.

17
18
Other services
Being a full service provider, Tideway is a one-stop-shop. Oil, gas and power producers and
distributors are aware of the full range of skills, disciplines and techniques which they find
under one umbrella with Tideway. Especially with respect to offshore activities, it is of the
utmost importance to have one single company that is in charge. Tideway has proved it is up
to that challenge and responsibility.

It is a well known fact that one assignment brings along other work. Tideway has the capacity and the means to carry out contract
extensions in very different fields than the original assignment. In addition, being used to proceed on short notice, Tideway has the
flexibility to switch from one discipline to another. It is all up to the benefit of the client.

Offshore assignments require special plant, skilled operators, and experienced staff. Tideway is an industry leader in its own right,
and being a member of the world-leading DEME Group gives it additional access to the full range of disciplines, people and plant of
its mother company.

This may be quite beneficial to Tideways clients in the first place. Only a few companies in the world have the heavy lifting capacity
of Scaldis Salvage & Marine Contractors, a sister company of Tideway which has, a.o., assigned its Rambiz lifting crane for the
installation of structures.
The skills of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) come in handy when constructing a landfall in an environmentally sensitive area; a
power cable or pipeline can be placed under the dunes when landfall is made. Furthermore, self-elevating jack-up work platforms
can be provided. Ballasting gravity based structures at sea is another example of how one offshore assignment may go hand in hand
with other work. Tideway has that experience and the plant that is needed. And in yet another field, a lot of skills that are required
for making oil, gas or power landfalls, can be applied for building sewage, cooling water and effluents discharge outfalls.
