Exercise 6-1

e Fixed-Frequency Receiver

EXERCISE OBJECTIVE
When you have completed this exercise, you will be able to identify the various
steps in the reception and demodulation process. You will evaluate the selectivity
and sensitivity of the receiver. You will also be able to observe the effect of the lim-
iter on the RF signal and plot the S-curve of the discriminator in the FM / PM
Receiver.

DISCUSSION
The fixed-frequency receiver you will be using has been designed to receive an
FM signal at a frequency of 10.7 MHz. -
A simplified block diagram of the receiver is silk-screened on the lower section of
the front panel of the FM / PM Receiver, as shown in Figure 6-1.

A more detailed block diagram in Figure 6-2 shows the points in the circuit where
observations and measurements will be made.
