Classroom Management Plan

Preventive Techniques

Maintaining a Positive classroom environment (Wilson, 2015)

o Welcome students at the door everyday
o Reinforce positive actions/behaviors through dojo points and allowing them to
cash the points in for rewards
o Following up with students that are not doing expected behaviors making sure
to give them positive interactions after having to remind and redirect.

Building classroom community

o Class meetings
Morning meetings to talk about the day, share information about
themselves, or engaging activity. As well as having roses and thorns
to help students express either happy or sad news.
Students will participate in group activities
Getting to know you activities at the beginning of the year and
throughout to build relationships
Talking with students one-on-one
-10/2 activity
Engage with students outside of the classroom (recess, lunch,
extracurricular activities)
o Student of the week
Student will be star of the week Student will fill out label and put
it on the back of their chair
Student will fill out about me paper and can bring picture
o Cooperative learning
Students will have lots of opportunities to work with their tables
partners as well as the actual table group.
o Class jobs will vary depending on level but they will be assigned to different
students to help make our classroom a productive room and to help teach
responsibility.

Engaging Curriculum
o Making learning culturally relevant
o Connecting to students background
o Having the curriculum engaging and fun
o Follow the Utah Core standards as well as the school programs
Classroom arrangement
 o Arrange desks to be in tables (areas with at least 4-5 students) to allow for
group work.
o Arrange students to have a range of abilities at the table so that they can help
each other academically and behaviorally
o Desks will be arrange so that students can easily see the white board/front of
the room
o Space desks so that teacher and students are easily able to move between and
throughout the room
o Have multiple garbage cans throughout the room to allow for easier access and
less distraction
o Teacher will provide classroom materials to help keep management of items
down and teach responsibility of personal stuff. (students will provided with a
blue box that has crayons, colored pencils, glue stick, scissors, small ruler,
eraser)
o Students will have a cubby in the middle of the table that will have pencil, pens,
highlighter and erasers as well as a tissue box to prevent long transition times

Supportive techniques

Establish clear expectations from the beginning of the school year

o Follow through with expected behavior
o Have students participate with setting class rules and procedures (following
along with the school wide expectations)
The Big 8

o Proximity
Walking around the classroom and making sure to help support
the students that may have trouble staying on task
o Cueing
Verbally recognizing positive behaviors in the classroom to help
reinforce desired behavior I like the way __ is ___
o Signals
Hook up/ brain gym
Thumbs up/thumbs down
Raising hands
o Time limit
Showing students the amount of time they have to complete a
task (with a timer, or on the smart board)
Giving them reminders
o Tasking
Giving students tasks to keep engaged during the lesson
Talking to partner/table
 Raising hand when they know
o Voice
As the teacher making sure to vary pitch, tone, diction and
cadence when appropriate to keep students engaged
To show excitement for learning
o Expectations
Establish and teach the expectations in the classroom and
different activity/ transitions
To remind students

Keep instruction brief and precise
o Body language
SLANT
o Breaks
Give students breaks during a long learning period
Getting up to stretch and move
A funny video if appropriate time
Parent communication
o Class Dojo will also be used to keep communication open between the parents
and I. Parents are able to check how their students are doing in classroom
behavior and the app allows translation to become easier if parent cant speak
English or has a hard time reading.
o Classroom Webpage- This will help parents see what we are doing in the
classroom and also will have a calendar to help keep track of homework and
upcoming assignments or field trips.
o Sep Conferences
o Emails and Calls if needed.

Intervention techniques

Consequences
o Classroom consequence will be set up at the beginning of the year with students
input so that we can continue to build community.
o Making sure to talk with student and help them to understand why that
behavior or action is not acceptable in our classroom.
o Lose dojo points
o Lose recess (only one) and have to write about their behavior and why it was
not appropriate
o If the behavior continues they will go to the principal
Conflict resolution
o I-message technique
 Teaching children to use sentences that talk about how they are
feeling when things happen. I feel this when you ____
o Students will be practicing social emotional skills all year round to help to
promote positive relationships.
o Students will be taught that at recess if someone gets hurt you stay with that
person until they feel better
o Students will be taught that when they have a conflict with another peer they
need to take the appropriate steps
Contracts
o Will be used when problem behaviors still persist. This will also just be used for
the kids that just need that extra support/reinforcement

Procedures

Beginning of the day routine

o Self starters
o Roses and thorns
o Morning meeting to talk about the schedule for the day and remind them of
expected behaviors
Homework
o This will depend on the school community.
o They will at least have to a certain amount during the week
o Homework will be turned in at the beginning of the class

Assignments/papers
o Will mostly be done in class
o They will be turned in at the beginning of class into designated area
Transitions
o Use time limits
o Tell them expectation
End of the day routine
o Students will be dismissed by tables. Some table will be first dismissed to their
backpacks and the other tables will start to stack their chairs.
o Teacher will say goodbye by giving them the option of hug, high-five, or
handshake.
o Students will then line up for either the bus or walking
Bathroom
o Signal for permission to use bathroom during class time is to show the sign
language for bathroom
o Students will obtain permission from teacher and grab the bathroom pass and
put it where they are working
Sharpening pencils
 o There will be a sharp pencil box and a dull pencil box. Students can trade out
dull pencils for sharp pencils when they need to. There will be a classroom job
for a student to sharpen pencils
