Engaging Curriculum

Classroom arrangement
o Arrange desks to be in tables (areas with at least 4-5 students) to allow for
group work.
o Arrange students to have a range of abilities at the table so that they can help
each other academically and behaviorally
o Desks will be arrange so that students can easily see the white board/front of
the room
o Space desks so that teacher and students are easily able to move between and
throughout the room
o Have multiple garbage cans throughout the room to allow for easier access and
less distraction
o Teacher will provide classroom materials to help keep management of items
down and teach responsibility of personal stuff. (students will provided with a
blue box that has crayons, colored pencils, glue stick, scissors, small ruler,
eraser)
o Students will have a cubby in the middle of the table that will have pencil, pens,
highlighter and erasers as well as a tissue box to prevent long transition times

o Class Dojo will also be used to keep communication open between the parents
and I. Parents are able to check how their students are doing in classroom
behavior and the app allows translation to become easier if parent cant speak
English or has a hard time reading.
o Classroom Webpage- This will help parents see what we are doing in the
classroom and also will have a calendar to help keep track of homework and
upcoming assignments or field trips.

Intervention techniques
Consequences
o Classroom consequence will be set up at the beginning of the year with students
input so that we can continue to build community.
o Making sure to talk with student and help them to understand why that
behavior or action is not acceptable in our classroom.
o Lose dojo points
o Lose recess (only one) and have to write about their behavior and why it was
not appropriate
o If the behavior continues they will go to the principal
Conflict resolution

Teaching children to use sentences that talk about how they are
feeling when things happen. I feel this when you ____
o Students will be practicing social emotional skills all year round to help to
promote positive relationships.
o Students will be taught that at recess if someone gets hurt you stay with that
person until they feel better
o Students will be taught that when they have a conflict with another peer they
need to take the appropriate steps
Contracts
o Will be used when problem behaviors still persist. This will also just be used for
the kids that just need that extra support/reinforcement

Transitions

End of the day routine
o Students will be dismissed by tables. Some table will be first dismissed to their
backpacks and the other tables will start to stack their chairs.
o Teacher will say goodbye by giving them the option of hug, high-five, or
handshake.
o Students will then line up for either the bus or walking
Bathroom
o Signal for permission to use bathroom during class time is to show the sign
language for bathroom
o Students will obtain permission from teacher and grab the bathroom pass and
put it where they are working
Sharpening pencils
o There will be a sharp pencil box and a dull pencil box. Students can trade out
dull pencils for sharp pencils when they need to. There will be a classroom job
for a student to sharpen pencils
