LIFE AND WORKS OF RIZAL COURSE OUTLINE


I. COURSE IDENTIFICATION
Course Title Life and Works of Rizal
Course Credit 3 units
Course Prerequisite None
Course Description This course is a critical study and analysis of the biography and works of Dr.
Jose P. Rizal, from childhood to becoming a national hero. Specifically, it shall focus
on his vital role in nation building as seen in the influence made by his famous novels,
Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The course aims to imbibe in the students
patriotism and nationalism and to be able to relate Rizal's teachings to contemporary
situations.The study of his novels and other writings would allow the students a view
into the historical realities of the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines, specifically the
19th century from the perspective, not only as a direct observer, but also as a
participant in the making the history.

II. LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCIES

After the successful completion of this course, the students should be able to:

Cognitive :1. Understand and critically analyze the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal from childhood to a national hero
that may influence the youth today.
2. Develop a personal understanding on the life and work of our national hero;and
3. Analyze Rizals Noli Me Tangere and El Fili Busterismo in its historical context and explain its
relevance in our contemporary society.

Affective: : 4. Appreciate Jose Rizals major works Noli Me Tangeres and El Filibusterismo that aim to foster
patriotism and nationalism and relate these to current situations;
5. Develop a more meaningful understanding of the relevance of the study of the multi-faceted aspects of
Rizals life so that the students may truly appreciate his great love and services of his country and
fellowmen; and
6. Understand and appreciate the qualities, behavior and character of Rizal, as well as his thoughts and
ideas, thus foster the development of civic conscience, moral character, personal discipline, duties of
citizenship and vocational efficiency.

Psychomotor: 7. Apply Rizals martyrdom to the present situation of the Philippines and to the current politicians who
are running the government; and
8. Recognize the relevance of Rizals ideas, thoughts, teachings and life values to present conditions in
the community and apply them in the solution of the day to day situations and problems of c
contemporary life.

V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Regular class attendance; reading of assigned text or other materials

8. ANG KWENTO SA LIKOD NG PANULAT AT TAGA ( A Theatrical Presentation of The Life Story of Rizal
