Exercise Setup -
You must first download and install the following dataset to perform this
exercise.

1. If the Project Manager is not displayed, on the Project tab, Project


Tools panel, click Manager.

2. If Schematic_Wiring_IEC is the active project, skip to step 6. If it is


open but not active, in the Project Manager, do the following:
- Right-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC.
- Click Activate.
- Skip to step 6.
3. In the Project Manager, right-click in an empty area. Click Open
Project.

4. Browse to where you installed the exercise files. Select


Schematic_Wiring_IEC.wdp. Click Open.
5. Double-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC to expand the drawing list.
6. Double-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC_22.dwg to open the file.
7. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Insert Ladder
flyout, click Insert Ladder.

8. In the Insert Ladder dialog box, do the following:


- For Phase, select 1 Phase.
- For Width, enter 180.
- For Spacing, enter 40.
- For Rungs, enter 8.
- For Draw Rungs, select Yes.
9. Notice that AutoCAD Electrical automatically calculates the ladder
length when you move the cursor from the box. Click OK.

10. Select an insertion point for the ladder at approximately 70.00,260.00.

11. On the Schematic tab, Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Trim Wire.
12. Select rungs 2, 4, 6, and 8.

13. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Wire flyout,
click Wire.
14. Add a wire starting on rung 1D and ending on the bottom horizontal
bus at 2E.
15. Add a wire starting on rung 1B and ending on the upper horizontal bus
at 2A.

16. Add a wire starting on rung 3B and running to the right and down to 4D.
Select the endpoint of the first segment.
17. Continue running the wire and select the endpoint on rung 5D.

18. On the Schematic tab, Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Add Rung
flyout, click Add Rung.
19. Add ladder rungs at references 6 and 8. (Be sure to click in the area
between vertical buses.) Press ESC to end the command.

This completes the exercise.

Exercise Setup
You must first download and install the following dataset to perform this
exercise.

Insert Individual Wires


1. If the Project Manager is not displayed, on the Project tab, Project
Tools panel, click Manager.

2. If Schematic_Wiring_IEC is the active project, skip to step 6. If it is


open but not active, in the Project Manager, do the following:
- Right-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC.
- Click Activate.
- Skip to step 6.
3. In the Project Manager, right-click in an empty area. Click Open
Project.
4. Browse to where you installed the exercise files. Select
Schematic_Wiring_IEC.wdp. Click Open.
5. In the Projects list, double-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC to expand the
drawing list.

6. Right-click Schematic_Wiring_IEC_18.dwg. Click Open.
7. Zoom in to rungs 4-8.

8. Add four wires between the connectors and terminals. As you insert the
wires, notice the X's on the wire connection points, and how the wire
path is automatically changed to avoid collisions with existing wires.

On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Wire flyout,


click Wire. Do the following:
- For the wire start, select the bottom side of terminal 62.
- For the wire end, select -18X1, pin 1.
- For the wire start, select the bottom side of terminal 53.
- For the wire end, select -18X2, pin 2.
- For the wire start, select the bottom side of terminal 63.
- For the wire end, select -18X1, pin 2.
- For the wire start, select the right side of terminal 54.
- For the wire end, select -18X2, pin 1.

9. On the Schematic tab, Edit Components tab, Scoot flyout, click Scoot.
10. Select the topmost horizontal wire and evenly space it below the lowest
wire as shown.

Add a Splice
1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon
Menu.

2. In the Insert Component dialog box, IEC: Schematic Symbols


preview window, click Miscellaneous.

3. In the IEC: Miscellaneous preview window, click Splice Symbols.

4. Click Splice.
5. For the insertion point, select the leftmost vertical wire.

6. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, click OK.


7. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Wire
flyout, click Wire.
8. For the wire start point, on the splice, select the top wire
connection.
9. For the wire endpoint, on the PLC, select output terminal 13.
Press ENTER.

10. On the Wires palette, click Scoot.


11. Select the horizontal portion of the new splice wire. Scoot it
down off the terminal text.

Add Multiple Wires


1. In the Project Manager, right-click
Schematic_Wiring_IEC_16. Click Open.
2. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel,
click Multiple Bus.

3. In the Multiple Wire Bus dialog box, click Component


(Multiple Wires). Click OK.
4. In the drawing, select the pin connection points 1-6 on the
plug side of connector -16X1. Press ENTER.

5. Drag the cursor to the left and down to display the wires
crossing over each other.
6. Before selecting an insertion point, enter F. Press
ENTER. This flips the wire crossovers and attachment
order.
7. Click the upper wire connection point on input 17 to
attach the wires to the PLC. Notice how the spacing of
the wires changes to match the component.

Exercise Setup
You must first download and install the following dataset to perform this

Insert Ladder Rungs and a Push Button


20. If the Project Manager is not displayed, on the Project tab, Project
Tools panel, click Manager.

21. In the Project Manager, right-click in an empty area. Click Open


Project.

22. Browse to where you installed the exercise files and select
Basic_Workflow_IEC.wdp. Click Open.
23. On the Project Manager, double-click Basic_Workflow_IEC to expand
the drawing list.
24. Right-click Basic_Workflow_IEC_06.dwg. Click Open.
25. Zoom in to the left side of the drawing. Make sure both the positive and
0 volt wires are displayed.
26. On the Schematic tab, Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Add Rung
to add two rungs to the ladder at location references 1 and 2.
27. Select the insertion points for two rungs at location references 1 and 2.
(These will be at the x values of 70 and 110, respectively.)

Note: Be sure to click anywhere between the horizontal buses, rather

than on the bus.
28. Notice that the rung automatically snaps to the nearest rung reference
(if available) and adds connection symbols as necessary.

29. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu to
insert the first component, which is a push button to reset the circuit.

30. In the Insert Component: IEC: Schematic Symbols dialog box, click
Push Buttons.

31. In the IEC: Push Buttons dialog box, click Push Button NO Momentary.

32. Select the insertion point on the left rung, near the upper end.
33. Now you annotate the component, adding description and catalog
information. You can manually enter the desired information, but
AutoCAD Electrical provides many tools for entering the information
from various reference files.

In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, notice that AutoCAD Electrical


automatically assigns the tag name -06S1.

Under Description, click Defaults.

34. In the Descriptions dialog box, click System/Reset. Click OK.

35. Under Catalog Data, click Project.

36. In the Find: Catalog Assignments dialog box, click Active Project. Click
OK.

37. In the Qsave dialog box, click OK to save the current drawing, ensuring
that the drawing file data is up to date.
38. AutoCAD Electrical searches all of the drawings in the current project
and lists any push buttons found in the HPB11/VPB11 Catalog Values
(This Project) dialog box.
39. Notice that AutoCAD Electrical transfers the catalog data, including the

subassembly information, into the Insert/Edit Component dialog box.
Select AB, 800EP-F2. Click OK.

40. Click OK.


This completes the insertion of the push button. This same basic
process is repeated for most component insertions.

Add a Second Push Button and a Relay Coil


1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu to
add an emergency stop push button.

2. In the Insert Component: IEC: Schematic Symbols dialog box, click


Push Buttons.
3. In the IEC: Push Buttons dialog box, click Mushroom Head NC
Momentary.

4. Select the insertion point near the middle of the left rung.
5. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, notice that AutoCAD Electrical
has automatically entered the tag name as -06S2. Because this is the
second push button inserted, AutoCAD Electrical increments the last
push button number automatically.
This drawing had the Automatic Numbering option set to Sequential. If
the numbering was based on the component location, the second push
button on the same rung would have a suffix such as "A" appended to
it.
6. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Descriptions, click
Defaults.
7. In the Descriptions dialog box, select Emergency/Stop. Click OK.
8. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Catalog Data, click
Lookup.

9. In the Parts Catalog (Table: PB) dialog box, you can browse the parts
catalog database to find the desired part number. You filter the
available options using the edit boxes at the top of the dialog box.
Select the part number 800T-D6A. Click OK.
10. Notice that the information is transferred into the Insert/Edit Component
dialog box.

11. Click OK.


This completes the push button insertion.

12. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu to
add an emergency stop push button.

13. In the Insert Component: IEC: Schematic Symbols dialog box, click
Relays/Contacts.

14. In the IEC: Relays and Contacts dialog box, click Relay Coil.

15. Select the insertion point for the relay coil on the left rung, near the
bottom, directly to the left of -06K2.

Notice that AutoCAD Electrical has automatically assigned the


component tag name as -06K1.
16. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Description, click
Defaults.
17. In the Descriptions dialog box, select Master Control|Relay. Click OK.
18. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, under Catalog Data, click
Lookup.
19. In the Parts Catalog (Table: CR) dialog box, select the part number
700-P200A1.
Click OK.
20. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, click OK.
21. You can easily edit component insertions with built-in utilities. To move
the Description attribute to the outside of the ladder in the same way as
the other relay coils on the drawing, do the following:
Right-click -06K1.
Click Attributes > Move Attribute.
Enter W.
Press ENTER.
Select the Master Control and Relay attributes.
Press ENTER.
Select the Base point.
Select the desired To point.
Press ENTER.
Note: Changing the justification requires you to use the AutoCAD
Properties command.

Add Wire Branches and Relay Coil Child Contacts


1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Wire to 17Page |
add two wires that create connecting branches for the circuit.

2. For the wire start point, select a point on the left rung between -06K1
and -06S2.
3. Select the wire endpoint on the right rung, directly to the right of the
wire start point. Notice that AutoCAD Electrical adds angled wire
connections automatically.

4. For the second wire branch, select the wire start point on the left rung
between -06S1 and -06S2.
5. Select the wire endpoint on the right rung, directly to the right of the
wire start point. Press ENTER.

6. On the Schematic tab, Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Trim Wire
to trim the wire on the right rung between the two wire branches that
you added.

7. Select a point on the right rung between the two wire branches you
added.
Notice that AutoCAD Electrical removed the selected wire. If the angled
connections are no longer needed, AutoCAD Electrical also removes
them.
8. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu to

add a contact from -06K1. This contact will latch the circuit when -06K1
is activated.

9. In the Insert Component: IEC: Schematic Components dialog box, click


Relays/Contacts.

10. In the IEC: Relays and Contacts dialog box, click Relay NO Contact.

11. Select the insertion point on the right rung, directly to the right of -06S1.
This is a child contact of the parent coil.
12. In the Insert/Edit Child Component dialog box, under Component Tag,
click Parent/Sibling to select the parent coil and transfer data from the
parent to the child.
13. In the drawing, select anywhere on -06K1.
14. In the Insert/Edit Child Component dialog box, click OK to transfer data
such as the tag, description, and pin numbers to the child component.

Add a Light and Wire Numbers and Generate a BOM Report


1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu to
insert a red light to signal when the circuit is engaged.

2. In the Insert Component: IEC: Schematic Symbols dialog box, click


Pilot Lights.

3. In the IEC: Pilot Lights dialog box, click Standard Lights.

4. In the IEC: Standard Lights dialog box, click Red Light.

5. Select the insertion point on right rung, directly right of -06K1.

6. Instead of using the description defaults, you manually enter the


description.

In the Insert / Edit Component dialog box, in the Description area, for
Line 1, enter POWER.
7. For Line 2, enter ON.
8. Under Catalog Data, click Lookup.
9. In the Parts Catalog (Table: LT) dialog box, select AB, 800H-PR16R.
Click OK.
10. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, click OK.
11. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Wire

Numbers to add wire numbers.

12. In the Wire Tagging dialog box, click Drawing-Wide.

The drawing is searched for wire networks. A wire number is placed on


each network found.

13. The last step is to extract a Bill of Material report from the components
in the drawing.

On the Reports panel, Schematic tab, click Reports.

14. In the Schematic Reports dialog box, in the Report Name area, select
Bill of Material.
15. In the Bill of Material area, click Active Drawing. Click OK.

16. In the Qsave dialog box, click OK.

A Bill of Material report is generated from component data within the


drawing. You can save the report to any of five different file formats, or
place on the drawing in the form of a table.

17. In the Report Generator dialog box, click Close.

Add Wire Numbers Drawingwide

Notice that AutoCAD Electrical adds a single wire number to each of
the wire networks in the drawing.

Update Wire Numbers and Add Copies


1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Icon Menu.

2. In the Insert Component dialog box, select Relays/Contacts.

3. In the Relays and Contacts dialog box, select Relay NO Contact.

4. Select an insertion point on rung 4 between the -06S4 limit switch and
the -X1-A terminal.

5. In the Insert/Edit Child Component dialog box, click OK to complete the


insertion of the child contact.

Notice that the new wire number is automatically added.

6. On the Schematic tab, Edit Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Copy Wire
Number.
7. Select insertion points on rungs, 4, 5, and 6 just to the bottom of the -
X1-A terminals.
Notice that different colors are used for the extra wire numbers.

Add Wire Numbers Projectwide


1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Wire
Numbers.

2. In the Wire Tagging dialog box, click Project-Wide.


3. In the Wire Tagging (Project-wide) dialog box, click OK to accept all
defaults.
4. In the Select Drawings to Process dialog box, click Do All. Click OK.
5. If requested, in the Qsave dialog box, click OK.
Notice that AutoCAD Electrical processes each drawing that is
selected and automatically adds wire numbers to all wire networks
and cross references.

- Click Activate.

Insert Data Attribtes

1. On the Schematic tab, Other Tools panel, click Symbol Builder.

2. In the Select Symbol/Objects dialog box, under Select from Drawing,


click Select Objects.

3. At the Select Objects prompt, select the symbol graphics. Press


ENTER.
4. In the Select Symbol/Objects dialog box, click Pick Point.

5. In the drawing, select the center point of the circle graphics.


6. In the Select Symbol/Objects dialog box, under Attribute Template, do
the following:
- From the Symbol list, select Vertical Parent.
- From the Type list, select (CR) Control Relays.
7. Click OK.

Notice that a preview of the selected graphics is displayed.

8. In the Block Editor environment, close the Block Authoring palette.

Note: This step is not required to create a symbol, but it reduces the
clutter in the Block Editor environment.

9. In the Attribute Editor, under the Required list, do the following:


- Select TAG1, MFG, CAT, ASSYCODE, FAMILY, INST, and LOC.
- Click Insert Attribute.
51. In the Block Editor, select an insertion point at approximately 0.0,0.0

- Select DESC1, DESC2, and DESC3.
- Drag the attributes into the Block Editor.

Note: The insertion point of multiple attributes is based on the insertion

Insert Wire Connections


1. In the Attribute Editor, under Wire Connection, from the Direction/Style
list, select Top/None.

2. Click Insert Wire Connection.

3. In the Block Editor, insert the wire connection attribute exactly at the
upper corner of your symbol. Be sure to use some kind of Snap mode.
Press ENTER.

4. In the Attribute Editor, under Wire Connection, do the following:


- From the Direction/Style list, select Bottom/None.
- Click Insert Wire Connection.
5. In the Block Editor, insert the wire connection attribute exactly at the
lower corner of your symbol. Be sure to use some kind of Snap mode.
Press ENTER.

6. In the Attribute Editor, from the Pins list, select TERM01.

7. Click Properties.

8. In the Properties palette, for Justify select Left, and click OK.

9. In the Attribute Editor, from the Pins list, select TERM02.


10. In the Properties palette, for Justify, select Right. Press ESC.
11. Close the Properties palette.
12. In the Attribute Editor, click Symbol Audit.

13. In the Symbol Audit dialog box, notice the entry listing the missing
attributes. These are the attributes that you did not insert in the symbol.
Click OK.

14. On the Symbol Builder tab, Close panel, click Close Block Editor.

15. In the Close Block Editor: Save Symbol dialog box, do the following:
- Under Symbol, for Unique Identifier, enter _ESSENTIALS.
- Press TAB or click anywhere in the dialog box to
- execute the change.
- Click OK.

16. In the Close Block Editor task dialog box, click Yes.
17. In the drawing, select an insertion point for the new symbol on rung 7,
just below the original symbol graphics.
18. In the Insert/Edit Component dialog box, click OK.

Insert a Cable Marker without Fan In/Out Signals
In this portion of the exercise you identify four wires running from terminals to
a connector as a cable. Fan in/out signals are not required.
53. If the Project Manager is not displayed, on the Project tab, Project

54. If Productivity_Tools_IEC is the active project, skip to step 6. If it is


open but not active, in the Project Manager, do the following:
- Right-click Productivity_Tools_IEC.

- For the insertion point, select the wire below terminal 16, directly to

BN. Click OK.
- For the insertion point, select the wire below terminal 17, directly to
the right of the
parent cable marker.
- In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker dialog box, under Wire Color/ID, enter
BU. Click OK.
- For the insertion point, select the wire below terminal 18, directly to
the right of the
parent cable marker.
- In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker dialog box, under Wire Color/ID, enter

GNYE. Click

- Press ESC to end the command.
72. On the Schematic tab, Insert Components panel, click Link
Components with Dashed Line.

73. In the drawing, select in order the BK, BN, BU, and GNYE cable
markers. Press ENTER.

Insert Fan In/Out Source Signals


In this portion of the exercise you use fan in/out signal sources to begin the
process of linking four wires from the terminal strip on one drawing to PLC
connections on another drawing.
1. In the Project Manager, right-click Productivity_Tools_IEC_21.dwg.
Click Open.
2. Zoom in to the right side of the terminal strip -X1-4.
3. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Source Arrow
flyout, click Fan In Source.

4. In the Fan-In/Fan-Out Signal Source dialog box, do the following:


- From the Source Marker Style list, select 1=Solid (Wire
Number/Description).
- Under Wire Connection Orientation, click the left icon.

5. In the drawing, select near the right side of the top wire as the insertion
point.
6. In the Signal - Source Code dialog box, do the following:
- For Code, enter OPSTA1-X1-4-01.
- For Description, enter BK.
- Click OK

7. In the Source/Destination Signal Markers (For Fan In/Out) dialog box,


click Source Fence Insert.
8. In the drawing, to draw a fence line, select a From point above the
second wire, directly below the Fan In/Out marker. Click to select a To
point below the bottom wire, directly below the From point. Press
ENTER.

9. In the Keep? dialog box, do the following:


- Click Keep All, Don't Ask.
- Select the Show Edit Dialog After Each check box.
- Click OK.
10. In the Source "To" Arrow (Existing) dialog box, do the following:
- For Code, enter OPSTA-X1-4-02.
- For Description, enter RD.
- Clear the Erase This Source Arrow check box.
- Click OK.

Insert a Cable Marker with a Fan In/Out Signal


In this portion of the exercise you insert cable markers that identify the four
wires connecting the terminal strip and the PLC connections as a cable.
1. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wire/Wire Numbers panel, Cable Markers
flyout, click Cable Markers.
2. In the Insert Component dialog box, in the IEC: Cable Markers preview
window, click Cable Marker.

3. In the drawing, select the insertion point near the middle on the top red
wire to the left of the fan in/out signal.

4. In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker (Parent Wire) dialog box, under Catalog
Data, click Lookup.
5. In the Parts Catalog (Table: W0) dialog box, do the following:
- From the Manufacturer list, select ANIXTER.
- From the Type list, select PVC-NYLON/PVC
- CONTROL CABLE.
- From the Gauge list, select 14AWG.
- From the Catalog list, select 2A-1404.
- Click OK

6. In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker (Parent Wire) dialog box, under


Location Code, click Drawing.
7. In the All Locations-Drawing dialog box, click =OPSTA1. Click OK.
8. In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker (Parent Wire) dialog box, under Wire
Color/ID, for ID, enter BK.
9. In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker (Parent Wire) dialog box, click OK.
10. In the Insert Some Child Components? dialog box, do the following:
- Select all the check boxes.
- Click OK Insert Child.

11. In the drawing, select the insertion point on the second red line, directly
below the first cable marker.
12. In the Insert/Edit Cable Marker dialog box, under Wire Color/ID, for ID,
enter RD. Click OK.
13. Repeat steps 10 and 11 for the other two cable markers, entering ID
colors of BU and OR. Press ESC.

Notice that the conductor color information is duplicated on this


drawing.
14. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, click Wire
Numbers.
15. In the Sheet 21-Wire Tagging dialog box, click Drawing-Wide.

Insert Fan In/Out Destinations


In this portion of the exercise, you insert the fan in/out signal destinations,
completing the link between the wires on sheet 21 with the wires on sheet 10.
1. In the Project Manager, right-click Advanced_Tools_IEC_10.dwg. Click
Open.
2. Zoom in to the bottom of the ladder on rungs 5/A-8/C.
3. On the Schematic tab, Insert Wires/Wire Numbers panel, Source Arrow
flyout, Fan Out Destination.

4. In the Fan-In/Fan-Out Signal Destination dialog box, from the


Destination Marker Style list, select 1=Solid (Wire Number/Description).
Under Wire Connection Orientation, click the bottom icon.

5. In the drawing, select the insertion point on the wire on rung 5, above
the terminal.

6. In the Destination "From" Arrow (Existing) dialog box, click Project.


7. In the Signal Codes -- Project-Wide Source dialog box, click Freshen.
8. If prompted, in the Qsave dialog box, click OK.
9. In the Signal Codes -- Project-Wide Source dialog box, select
OPSTA1-X1-4-01 from the list. Click OK. Tip: For Sort, click Sheet.
Scroll to the bottom of the list.
10. In the Destination "From" Arrow (Existing) dialog box, click OK.
11. In the drawing, select the insertion point on the wire on rung 6, above
the terminal, directly to the right of the first signal insertion.

Create a Cable Report


In this portion of the exercise, you add wire numbers projectwide and create a
report displaying the cable wiring you just identified.
1. On the Reports tab, Schematic panel, click Reports.
2. In the Schematic Reports dialog box, do the following:
- From the Report Names list, select Cable From/To.
- Select Active Drawing (All).
- Click OK.
3. If prompted, in the Qsave dialog box, click OK.
4. In the Location Code Selection dialog box, do the following:
- Click All>>.
- Click <<All.
- Click OK.

5. In the Report Generator dialog box, click Change Report Format.


6. In the Cable From/To Data Fields to Report dialog box, do the
following:
- Under Available Fields, select CBLWC.
- Under Available Fields, select CBLMFG.

- Under Fields to Report, rearrange fields as shown.

4. In the Signal Codes--Project-wide Source dialog box, select MOTORS
CONNECTED, Reference 8/C. Click OK.

5. In the Insert Destination Code dialog box, click OK + Update Source.

Add a Source Signal Arrow

Arrow flyout, click Source Arrow.

2. In the drawing, select near the lower end on the added wire.
3. In the Signal - Source Code dialog box, enter -02M3 AUX CONTACT
as the code. Click OK.
AutoCAD Electrical places the matching destination on
Schematic_Wiring_IEC_06.dwg and you cannot select it at this time.
4. In the Source/Destination Signal Arrows dialog box, click No.

Complete the Network

2. Zoom in to the lower area on rung 7.

4. Draw the wire starting on the lower horizontal bus at rung 7 and

6. Select -06H1 located on rung 2.


7. Insert the new light on the added wire directly to the right of -06K4.

that when you resequence and retag the project, AutoCAD Electrical
transfers the wire number from Schematic_Wiring_IEC_02.dwg to
Schematic_Wiring_IEC_06.dwg and replaces the question marks.
