4A3 Mr. Jose Carlos
Sunday Gospel Reflection for August 20, 2017
Matthew 15: 21-28

Keep the faith and patience is a virtue. These two phrases are the reminders of the gospel
reading. Usually, when we are praying, we immediately expect that God will grant our wishes, as
if He is a wish vending machine. Then if our wishes were not granted, we question God and be
mad at Him for not giving us what we want. I believe that these circumstances are tests to our
patience and faith.
In this gospel reading, many would say that Jesus responses to the woman who asks for
His help are insulting. At first glance, it is insulting but the message behind it is different because
its a matter of patience and faith to God. There are times when we pray that it feels like no one
is listening, even God, its like were not given attention at all. This situation tests our faith and
trust to God that He will not leave our side whenever we are struggling in life. Theres a reason
behind why God does not grant our wish immediately. Maybe that thing we want is not good for
us and, worse, may harm us. Or maybe He has better plans for us in the future, we just have to
trust Him, wait, and have faith.
