Directions: Compare and Contrast the evidence used by those who claim we did not go to the moon versus
the Space Race Unit we did in class. Make sure you use information from the primary sources used in class
including the testimonies of the astronauts and data from NASA.

In your final paragraph decide what you feel is most correct what additional information do you need to prove

The Space Race


Lesson Plan & Unit Design
Purpose of Unit: Students will discover what the space race by analyzing primary
sources.

Directions: Students will first spend 2-3 class periods reading primary sources, lecture
and talk about the space race and how it is related to the cold war. Then students will
practice their paragraph writing skills and ability to cite text about the United States
going to the moon. Afterwards the students will watch a 30 minute program about how
certain scientists state the moon landing was faked. The students will then compare and
contrast evidences used by both parties.

Purpose of Assignment: Students will demonstrate that they are able to cite text and
video quotes. The students will use primary sources to defend the position that the
United States went to the moon. In addition, they will contrast and cite evidence that
skeptics used to defend their opinions. Students will then use their evidence paragraphs
to write a five paragraph comparing and contrasting the two points of views. In their
final paragraph they are to state their opinion and defend it. Also they need to state the
questions they have from the topics and answer the assigned questions.
