3. Objective(s): Students can organize math vocabulary by the operation it refers to.

4. Materials and Technology Resources: Whiteboards, expo markers, graphic organizer with
sections labeled multiplication, addition, subtraction, division, and equality

5. Instructional Procedures:

a. Motivation/Engagement: TW will ask students about other words for addition.


Information will be recorded on anchor chart. After feedback, students will be put into small
group. Each group will be given a envelope containing 15 terms on each index card. Students
will be instructed to put the index in the corresponding operation they think the term aligns with.
b. Developmental Activities or Learning Experiences: Students will write in their personal
graphic organizers what terms go on in each pile. Teacher will model how to do the first term
sum with the students. Students will be released to work with their teams for five minutes for
increased by. Students that were able to put it in the right section will move on to pairs, students
that did not will stay with their groups.

c. Closure: Students have 30 minutes for the independent practice. After that, they will have a
quiz with homework to match the words.

d. Extension: TW make reiterate the importance of knowing their content area vocabulary when
doing word problems.

Students will have teachers anchor chart, extra time to finish the activity, and support
from their pairs even when they are in solo.

a. Formative:. They utilize self-assessment tools to determine if they are experts,


practitioners, apprentices, or novices.

b. Summative After the end of the week they will have a test on their vocabulary.

a. Strengths: Students are able to identify equality terminology and addition.

b. Concerns: Students are having difficulty figuring out terms such as more than. This
implies that we need more practice.

c. Insights: This activity has highlighted why students struggle with word problems.
They are having trouble comprehending what the task is asking. This activity is imperative to
build on their skills for word problems.
