Chemistry
Build the chemical formula for baking soda and vinegar with the elements/compounds
provided in the envelope titled chemical formula cards. You may use the periodic table
provided. You will use all cards. Write your final answer in the space provided below.
2. Now that you have the chemical formulas for baking soda and vinegar. Circle whether
they are an acid or a base.
3. Build the chemical equation for the reaction between baking soda and vinegar. To build
the equation, use the compounds provided in the envelope titled chemical equation
Yellow cards. You may use the periodic table provided. You will only use 3 cards, therefore
you will NOT use all cards. Write your final answer in the space provided below.

Procedure 2
1. Make sure that scale is in ounces!
2. Using the scale, place the water bottle labeled Healthy on top of the scale while placing
the funnel labeled vinegar inside the bottle.
3. Next, once that is complete make sure to always zero the scale.
4. Add the amount of vinegar into the bottle with selected amount of CH COOH (vinegar)

from scenario.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for unhealthy bottle.
6. Once finished put aside bottles.
Procedure 3
1. Grab two balloons
2. You will place a blank sheet of paper labeled baking soda onto the scale (dont forget to
zero out the scale! And must be in ounces).
3. Weigh out the required ounces of NaHCO (baking soda) needed onto the scale.
3
4. Once done place the mouth of one balloon into the mouth opening of the labeled baking
soda funnel.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the second balloon.
Procedure 4
1. Now with caution place the mouth of the balloon into the mouth opening of the bottle
with vinegar on each bottle. (make sure to be careful balloon can rip!)
2. Make sure there is a tight seal between the balloon opening, and the bottle so no gas can
escape and your balloon can be inflated.
3. Lift the balloon upright so the NaHCO can fall into the CH COOH.
3 3
4. Measure the circumference (centimeters) of each balloon using the measuring tape.
Clean up
1. Once you are done remove balloon carefully without making a mess.
2. Place cap back onto the bottle and place bottle inside designated trash bag (provided) along with
the balloon. J
3. Thank you for participating!!!

Circumference/Volume
1. What was the circumference of the balloon with the most amount of vinegar?
2. What was the circumference of the balloon with the least amount of vinegar?
3. Measure the volume of the balloon with the most amount of vinegar.
4. Measure the volume of the balloon with the most amount of vinegar.
6. What can you deduce about the relationship of the amount of vinegar with the
circumference and volume?
