DESIGN OF OPEN NEWEL STAIR WITH QUARTER SPACE LANDING

Horizontal Span of stair case 1.50 m 1500 mm
Risers 0.15 m 150 mm

1 Genral arrngment:-
Fig. shows plan of stair hall.
2 Design Constants:- For HYSD Bars Cocrete M = 20
sst = = 230 N/mm 2
wt. of concrete = 25000 N/mm2
scbc = = 7 N/mm3 m = 13.33
m*c 13.33 x 7
k= = = 0.289
m*c+sst 13.33 x 7 + 230
j =1-k/3 = 1 - 0.289 / 3 = 0.904
R =1/2xc x j x k = 0.5 x 7 x 0.904 x 0.289 = 0.913

3 Effective span :- Asume 200 mm bearing in the walls .

Effective span of fleight AB = 0.1 + 2.25 + 1.50 + 0.1 = 3.95 m
Effective span of fleight BC = 0.1 + 1.50 + 1.25 + 1.50 + 0.1 = 4.45 m

4 Loading Each Flight :-

(a) for flight portion
Let the thickness of waist slab '= 4.45 x 40 = 200 mm
\Weight of slab w' on slope = 0.2 x 1 x 1.00 x 25000 = 5000 per m run
R2+T2 150 2
+ 250 2
=
Dead weight of horizontal area w1= w' x = 5000 x 5831 N/m2
T 250
0.15
Dead weight of step is w = x 1 x 1 x 25000 = 1875 N/m
2
Weight of fiishing etc. = 150 N
live load 1.00 x 3000 = 3000
Total weight per horizontal metre run = 10856 N/m
(b) for the landing portion
Dead load = 200 / 1000 x 1 x 1 x ### =
5000 N/m2
Weight of fiishing etc. 150 = N
live load 1.00 x 3000 =
3000 N/m2
8150 N/m2
However, since each quarter space landing is commeon to both the flight, only half of the load the above
loading i.e. = 8150 / 2 = 4075 N/m will consider.
