Week Eight Modern Lesson
Level: Intermediate
50 min lesson
High School (14-18)

MY Goal for this week: As an ending class, take the time to appreciate one another and our
final moments dancing this semester together.

Student Focus: Take this class to forget about the workloads and other outside things and be
present and breathe and trust each other.

Warm Up: (12 mins)(since sick, refrain from tactile touch; allow dancers to take
control of their body and what they need) 3 Gymnopedies: No. 2. Lent et Triste
Start by taking a walk around the room, notice your breath, those around you.
Sense their presence and the atmosphere. Speed it up a little let your breath
control your pattern and movement, do what your body needs.
Freeze where you are take 8 counts to roll down, plie stretch a few times, 8
counts to roll up. Walk around, freeze with arms this time, big expand out and up
before rolling down, walk out into downward dog, roll up arms reverse.
Walk around, this time same process going down, walk out into plank, back up.
Walk around, this time walk to plank come down to upward dog, and reverse back
up
Reverse process, plank, downward dog, just roll down.
End it with finding yourself in two grande plie in second position.

*Take a walk around the room to a different location*

Center: (12 mins)

Plie/tendu: Plans by Oh Wonder


Start in parallel, demi demi grande, in grande roll forward turn to parallel and roll up Repeat in
first turnout and second turnout. Parallel 3 tendu plie on 3rd , repeat on qua. And in turnout
Back in parallel, roll down and walk into downward dog, plie plie, roll up in second position 2
grande plie 8 counts each.

Tendu/Deggage: first time Dirty Old Town by Craig Cardiff /Second time Home by Edward
Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
Standing in 1st feet go right left switching 8 tendu, 4 tendu, 2 tendu, 4 single tendu. Plie in
between Repeat it but with deggage.

Take the over under curves we worked on a few weeks ago and move over to the side of the
room.
Across the floor: (9 mins)

Walk back starting with right foot on 3 step, slide foot into turnout into a second plie into a
horizontal arabesque, step right, left, foutte right foot to roll back to the ground, continue
momentum around into an inverson right foot up, stand up balance right left into chug right to
face the side you came from to repeat.
*Teach it to students and have them work with a partner before asking questions. After right
side, have them work through left side.

(rest of class) Have dancers take the things we have learned in class so far and start a little
movement phrase for our cumulative piece. *Walk around guiding them or helping when asked.

Thank the dancers for their work today, and to remember what they did for next week.
