Scope and Policy

1. The Brazilian Journal of Geology (BJG) is intended for the

dissemination of scientific themes of broad interest and original
character related to Brazilian and neighboring countries
Geosciences, including modern processes and new field and
laboratory techniques. There are four regular and two theme issues
per year.

2. The BJG publishes Articles, Fast Communications, Articles with

Accelerated Review, Letters to the Editor, Editorials and Review
Articles.

3. The texts may be written in Portuguese, French, Spanish or,

preferably, in English.

4. Articles the main publication model consists of up to 8.000

words, including references. Fragmented articles will not be accepted
(E.g. part 1, part 2). The articles must be readable, regardless any
previous article.

5. Discussions section destined to disclose comments on the

recently published Articles, followed by the Replica of the author(s)
of the original work. Both texts must be brief, objective and concise.

6. Book Reviews The reviews are published by invitation of the

Editors.

7. Geological News It is about news which deserve rapid

communication.

Evaluation

1. Peer review: articles will be submitted to critical review of at

least 2 (two) consultants and, by a third one, in order to conduct a
tiebreaker (when one of the reviewers accepts the article and the
other one rejects its publication).

2. Type of evaluation: The blind review system will not be adopted,

i.e., the consultants will receive the manuscripts with the
identification of the authors.

The publication is sent to SBG members and to Public Universities

libraries.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

international means for the publication of scientific works related to

all the aspects of Geological Sciences in Brazil, South America and
South Atlantic countries, including Antarctica.
The journal has publications on mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry,
paleontology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology,
tectonics, neotectonics, geophysics applied to geology, volcanology,
metallogeny and mineral deposits, marine geology, glaciology,
paleoclimatology, geochronology, stratigraphy, engineering geology,
hydrogeology , geohazards and geological remote sensing, providing
a niche for interdisciplinary works on regional geology and Earth
history.

The manuscripts submitted, which will be evaluated as for their

content and originality, must have regional appeal and present
material of greater than local significance. Articles previously
published or being submitted to other publications will not be
considered.

GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

The manuscripts must be digitalized in Microsoft Word format (.doc)

and submitted online. The works must be written in English, although
submissions in Portuguese and Spanish may also be accepted. The
manuscripts may be submitted to the following categories: original
articles, rapid communications, accelerated review articles and letters
to the editor. Specific editorials and review articles may be ordered
by the editors.

ORIGINAL ARTICLES

The manuscripts related to the complete original articles must not

exceed 8,000 words, including title, authors, institutions and
addresses, abstract and keywords, resumo and palavras-chave, text,
references and captions. Illustrations and tables should be sent in
separated files, and no file shall exceed10 Mb in size. They should
follow, as far as possible, the following formatting:

Title page: it shall include the complete title (up to 250

characters), short title (up to 40 characters), complete address of the

acknowledgments.

a) The introduction must explain the problem which was investigated

and indicate the objectives of the work. Previous relevant
publications may be mentioned, or the art may be presented to the
field of study and considerations regarding the original data obtained.

b) In the section Materials and methods, the information must be

brief, clear and sufficient. Standard methods need only to be
referenced and techniques already published may be briefly
described, according to their respective references.

c) The results must bring the objective and direct report of the

observations made and the data produced, along with some personal
insight. Tables and illustrations are welcome. The text should not
repeat what is evident in figures and tables, though it should
comment the meaning of these data.

d) In the section Discussions and Conclusions the interpretation of

the reported data and the relevance of these new information face
the existent knowledge must be included.

e) The acknowledgements must be in a separated paragraph , placed

before the references and it should contain only the strictly
necessary.
