SECTION A: ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

Question 1

a) List three types of managerial roles in organisations. Using Blooms Taxonomy, explain how
(i) the First Line Managers, (ii) the Middle Managers, and (iii) the Top managers perform
their roles in an organisation.

b) Using your Teams Business Idea and/or Model, identify nine (9) core elements of it and
explain how these elements be incorporated and used to ensure the profitable operations of
the business.

Question 2

a) Trinidad Paper Products Ltd produces three (3) different paper products at its Trincity plant:
Product A, Product B and Product C. Each Product has its own dedicated production line at
the plant. It currently uses a three-part classification for its manufacturing costs: direct
materials, direct manufacturing labour, and manufacturing overhead costs. Total
manufacturing overhead costs of the plant in July 2015 were $150 million ($20 million of
which were fixed). This total amount was allocated to each product line on the basis of the
direct manufacturing labour costs of each line. Table 1 provides a summary of cost data (in
millions) for July 2015

ii) Suppose in August 2015, production was 120 million units of Product A, 160
million of Product B and 180 million of Product C, Why might the July 2015
information on manufacturing cost per unit be misleading when predicting total
manufacturing costs in August 2015?

b) MENG 3000 (2015) Ltd operates at capacity and sells furniture to four (4) department
store chains (customers). The companys CEO commented, We apply ABC to determine
product-line profitability. The same ideas apply to customer profitability, and we should find
out our customer profitability as well. The Company sends catalogues to corporate
purchasing department s on a monthly basis. The customers are entitled to return any unsold
merchandises within a six-month period from the purchase date, and receive a full purchase
price refund. Table 2 shows the data collected from last years operations.

a) What are the eight (8) categories of waste? Explain with examples how organisations could
eliminate these wastes to (i) lower costs, (iii) meet customers just-in-time demands, and (iii)
maintain high and consistent quality.

ones personality, perception and behaviour.
