Ch1-3 Daniel Alas & Melisa Zuniga I. The Infancy Narrative Matthew Ch 1 The Genealogy of Jesus -The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.*
-Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the
father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
-Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah,
whose mother was Tamar.d Perez became the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, The Birth of Jesus -Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,* but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit. -Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,* yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. - Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord* appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. Matthew Ch 2 The Visit of the Magi - Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem asking for the newborn king - They said there was a star rising and they are looking for the newborn king to do him homage - Jerusalem and King Herod were confused, so the King assembled the chief priests and scribes - They told the king that the newborn king would be born in Bethlehem - King Herod sent for the magi and sent them to Bethlehem - He told them to look for the newborn and when they find him, to come back, so KIng Herod could bring Jesus homage - Magi went and saw a star guiding them to where the child was - The child was with Mary and the Magi prostrated and did homage to the baby - Offered the baby: treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh - Magi were warned not to return to Herod and departed for their country in another way The Flight to Egypt - In Josephs sleep, an angel warned him to wake up and take his family and flee to Egypt because Herod is going to search for the baby and kill him - Joseph awoke and took his family and departed to Egypt - They stayed there until the death of King Herod - The prophets prophecy was fulfilled Out of Egypt I called my son. The Massacre of the Infants - Herod realized that he was tricked by the Magi and was furious - He ordered to kill all the boys in Bethlehem who were 2 yrs old and under in accordance due to the time of the Magi - One of the prophets prophecy was fulfilled: A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more. The Return From Egypt - Herod died and an angel appeared to Joseph saying to take his family to the land of Israel because the people who persecuted them had died - He took his family and went to Israel, but he heard that Archelaus was ruling Judea and he was afraid - Departed for Galilee and lived in Nazareth - Fulfillment of the prophets words: He shall be called a Nazorean. II. The Proclamation of the Kingdom Ch 3 The Preaching of John the Baptist - Preached in the desert saying, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand - Isaiahs words fulfilled: A voice crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. - Clothes- camels hair and a leather belt ; food- locusts and wild honey - Baptized people in the Jordan River as they said their sins - He would warn the Pharisees and the Sadducees about their repentance. He said that someone greater was coming and that he is not worthy to carry his sandals - John baptizes with water- repentance; Jesus- baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire The Baptism of Jesus - Jesus came from Galilee to John at the river to be baptized - John tried to prevent saying that Jesus should baptize him , but Jesus said no and that this act would fulfill a prophets words - Submerged in the water and came up - Heaven opened and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove coming upon him - God said, This is my beloved son , with whom I am well pleased.
