Writing Reflections
In EM1201, you will write 3 pieces of reflection. Reflections may be written in-class or outside of
class.

develop and share your ideas with your classmates and tutor
learn about the ideas of your classmates and tutor
comment on their ideas
refine your writing skills
Thus, your reflections will be assessed on whether you have clearly achieved the following points
with a focus on content, organization and language:
In-depth thinking of the issue/topic
Relevant and adequate support for the ideas
Coherently and logically arranged ideas
A range of appropriate cohesive devices
Good control of grammar, spelling and punctuation
Fluent and well constructed sentences (a good variety of them)
plan start with jotting down ideas; organize the main and supporting ideas into two to three
paragraphs, if need be. Write the first draft.
read through the first draft and check that the sentences are grammatically correct and that the
words are accurately used. Make the necessary changes.
ask one or two of your classmates to comment on your reflection. (Comments could be on
similar experiences you have or on what you like about their reflections.)
respond to the comments made by your classmate(s).

Reflection Topic
1 Write about a composer that you like very much. Describe how the scores of this
persons music or lyrics make you feel.
Bring a sample of the composers music on your mobile phone. In this way, your
classmates can listen to it and comment on your feelings and the piece of music as well.
Write a reflection about the things mentioned. Your reflection should include which
source you looked at and a brief summary of it. Also include a clear explanation of
your reaction to the ideas mentioned in the reading. Try to explain your reaction to the
things that he says.
3 Many people are concerned about the future of classical music. Different people have
begun attempting different strategies to increase the interest of the general public in
classical music. One strategy which is being employed is the Flash Mob.
View the following videos and reflect on the events (flash mob), then answer this
question Do you think flash mobs are effective in getting the general public to
attend concerts?
Be sure to:
1)Explain the problem and what flash mobs are
2) Give your opinion about this strategy and why you think it is or is not effective.
Refer to the videos to support your answer.
4) Offer at least one suggestion on how to adapt this type of flash mob or suggest a
new strategy to address the issue of getting people to come to view classical music
performances.
