Waste, Municipal Waste, Industrial Waste

Background

Waste is an unwanted material that left over from manufacturing proccess and
household activity, waste is one example of environmental problem, waste gives bad impact
almost in all aspect of human live, for example water are polluted by detergent causing the
water become harmful to the environment. Waste has become the serious problem in this
world.

Main Content

Waste, or rubbish, trash, junk, garbage, depending on the type of material or the
regional terminology, is an unwanted or undesired material or substance. It may consist of
the unwanted materials left over from a manufacturing process (industrial, commercial,
mining or agricultural operations,) or from community and household activities. The
material may be discarded or accumulated, stored, or treated (physically, chemically, or
biologically), prior to being discarded or recycled. It is also used to describe something we
use inefficiently or inappropriately. (http://www.fullcycle.co.za/index.php/what-is-waste-
and-why-is-it-a-problem.html)

Waste are divided into 2 type, Municipal waste and Industrial waste. Municipal waste
is a waste that produced from communiity or household activities, Municipal waste are
classified into 2 type, there are Biodegradable waste and non-Biodegradable waste,
Biodegradable waste is a waste that mostly coming from the rest of living thing and dont
have a seriously impact for environment because this waste can decomposed by micro-
organism like bacteria in a short time. The biodegradable waste are also called by organic
waste. The biodegradable waste are consist of 2 type of waste, there are wet and dry waste.
The example of biodegradable waste are paper, dry leaves, food waste and etc. This waste
can be processed become a useful product by various methods. For example, organic
fertilizer from dry leaves and twigs, and also biogas which processed from animal waste.

Non-biodegradable waste are a waste that cant decomposed by organism, non-

biodegradable waste are difficult and takes a long time to decompose because this waste
usually coming from industrial product and contain chemical substances. The example of
non-biodegradable waste are detergent, plastic, metal waste, and etc. Because non-
biodegradable waste cannot be broken down, recycling is the best option for managing it.
The example of recycling are bottles of drinking water can be used for wall decoration,
handicraft or the other. Trash metal such as iron, steel, and other metals can be melted and
used as raw materials again.
Industrial waste is a waste that produced from manufacturing process, the Industrial
waste are classified into 4 type, there are Liquid, Solid, Gas and B3 waste. Liquid waste are
waste in a liquid form, the liquid waste cause the water area such as river, lake, and sea
become polluted, the example of liquid waste is the contamination of mercury in a river.
Solid waste are waste that are fulfill (tambahi penjelasan e bos) , Gas waste were came from
many activities such as vehicle emission, factory smoke, forest burning and etc, gas waste is
causing diseases in human respiratory system, the example of gas waste is the emission of
CO2 excessively can cause global warming, B3 waste are the hazardous waste that classified
into explosive, reactive, flammable, cause infection, corrosive, and toxic. B3 waste are the
most dangerous waste that should be tackled carefully, the B3 waste also have a regulation
regarding to the management of hazardous and toxic waste, in government regulation
number 19 of 1994.

Industrial waste can be a seriously problem and have a bad impact for environment
and ecosystem if not managed by the company. There are some impact caused by waste
problem in industrial and household :

a. Global Warming and Air Pollution: Many of industrial activities which produce gas as
the waste. Smoke and greenhouse gases like CO2 and SO2 are being released by
industries into the air caused the global warming phenomenon increasing. Melting of
glaciers, extinction of polar beers, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes are few effects of
global warming.
b. Water Pollution : The high cost to treat waste make the industry prefer to dumped
the waste into open oceans or rivers. As a result, many of our water sources have
high amount of industrial waste and when we used the water it can make a bad
effect for our health.
c. Oil Pollution : With growing human population, demand for food has increased.
Farmers often use highly toxic fertilizers and pesticides to get rid off insects, fungi
and bacteria from their crops. However with the overuse of these chemicals, they
result in contamination and poisoning of soil.
