125th Morrison Congress

2nd Session

S. 125-0

Title of the Bill: The Got Gas? act

Main Author(s): Sen. McGwire Portell (R-TN)

Co-Sponsor(s): Rep. Abby Fusca (R-NC)

BE IT ENACTED BY THE MORRISON CONGRESS

1 SECTION 1: Findings
2 Congress makes the following findings:
3 1)Rising gas prices do affect both consumers and the economy adversely, and
4 they are especially harmful to lower- and moderate-income households
5 2)Looking at all households with annual incomes less than $50,000, it turns out
6 that the vast majority (80%) do own cars, and a significant portion (over a third)
7 own more than one car
8 3)Rising gas prices produce a level of hardship for a group that is already
9 suffering from high levels of unemployment and stagnant or declining real
10 wages.
11
12 SECTION 2: Purpose
This bill proposes the use of revenue to search and find oil on american soil in order
13
to lower the price of gas which would help all car owners get to work or school
14
without losing their life savings. that is, until a more renewable energy can be
15
found and utilised.
16
17 SECTION 3: General Provisions
18 To provide American made gas for commuters who, at times, cannot afford the
19 soaring gas prices bought from other nations. This bill would use revenue to find
20 oil and refine it into gasoline for American use. This would make gas cheaper
21 and possibly reduce american spending on world trade. Reducing gas prices
22 allows people, especially minorities and those who are living in poverty, to get to
23 work or bring their child to school without losing hundreds of dollars that could go
24 towards food or comfort. This would ultimately boost efficiency and allow the
25 nations more impoverished areas to end the cycle of poverty by perhaps getting
26 better grades or being able to get a higher paying job that might be just a little bit
27 further than they could previously afford. This bill could affect America greatly for
28 the better. This of course would only be necessary until a cheaper, cleaner
29 energy can be found.
30
31
32 SECTION 4: Definitions
33 American made gas: gas refined from oil dug up from American wells, which means
34 no shipping cost and no haggling with international business men.
35 The cycle of poverty: Poverty is proven as a vicious cycle that is incredibly difficult to
36 get out of.
