Press Release

PEARCE SERVED RECALL PAPERS

Long Beach, Cal., December 13, 2017:

Last night at the Long Beach City Council meeting a group of determined and persistent activists from
the 2nd Council District community, lead by Jonathan Crouch, founder of the RECALL JEANNINE
PEARCE FROM LONG BEACH CITY COUNCIL public facebook group and one of four principal officers
of this Recall Committee (RecallPearce.org), personally served on Councilmember Jeannine Pearce a
Notice of Intention (technically called the Notice of Intention to Circulate Recall Petition, see Attachment
A) to begin the process of her recall and removal from office.

Clearly aware of what was about to occuras Mr. Crouch approached the lectern to speak during
public comments, with his fellow recall supporters arraying themselves around him and others holding
signs from the audienceCouncilmember Pearce fled the Council Chamber. Unable to face her own
constituents, she remained absent throughout the duration of his comments.

Mr. Crouch proceeded to outline (see youtube video: https://youtu.be/Cn90yrztF9Q) the criminal and
corrupt conduct which has characterized Pearces tenure in office, the full picture of which has only recently
come into public view (see Attachment B for his full remarks). In anticipation of the possibility that Pearce
might lack the integrity to sit and face her accusers, those who had simply come to confront her with her
own conduct, Mr. Crouchs prepared remarks included an alternate ending, which he read, announcing
that, instead of personal service, Pearce would be served by certified mail first thing the next morning.

After the conclusion of Mr. Crouchs announcement, Pearce returned to the Council Chamber. The
recall committee took that opportunity instead to personally serve her. We handed the Notice of Intention
to the City Clerk, who delivered it to Councilmember Pearce at her seat behind the dais.

The Notice of Intention is signed by the maximum allowed thirty signatories, all registered voters in the
2nd Council District, men and women from all political persuasions and walks of life, who serve as the
official, legal Proponents of the recall.

It has been a long road getting to this point for this Recall Committee, but with the financial
commitments in place to carry the recall process through, and with the public release of the images of
Pearces domestic assault victim and other highly disturbing evidence (including extensive police reports),

For Release 11:30 a.m., December 13, 2017

we are confident in our ultimate victory in this statutorily lengthy process.

As per the California recall process, the Notice of Intention served on Pearce last night was a copy
and the original will be filed today with the Long Beach City Clerk. Next the Notice of Intention will be
published in a newspaper of general circulation, and Pearce will have the opportunity to file an Answer.
The recall committee expects to have the Recall Petition, the final step in the complicated process before
gathering signatures, submitted and approved within the next two to three weeks and to commence
gathering signatures soon after the first of the new year.

FULL TEXT OF JONATHAN CROUCHS REMARKS AS PREPARED:

Good Evening Mayor Garcia and Councilmembers,

My name is Jonathan Crouch, and I reside at 525 E. Seaside Way, in the 2nd
Council District. I came before this body a few months ago regarding
Councilmember Jeannine Pearce and the events that took place before, on, and
after June 3rd of this year.
Since then, we have learned the following about Councilmember Pearce:
1. She drove while intoxicated, endangering motorists and pedestrians from
Orange County all the way to downtown Long Beach.
2. She assaulted her former chief of staff Devin Cotter, continuing a pattern of
domestic violence which he later outlined to the police.
3. She used her position as a city council member to obtain special treatment
from the Long Beach Police Department in order to escape justice.
4. She misled a police investigation, denying that she caused injury to
Cotters head by stating, quote, I swear on my kid, on my dead mom, I
didnt do it. Later she admitted to doing just that.

5. She lied about being a domestic violence victim, telling the public one thing
while admitting to the police that Devin Cotter had quote not been
physically violent with her in the past and has never threatened to
physically harm her.
6. She hired Cotter last year while engaging in a relationship with him, and
she continued that relationship in clear violation of City sexual harassment
policies.
7. She subsequently, after their affair became problematic, facilitated a fraud
against the Long Beach taxpayer by allowing Cotter to go on paid leave,
between December and February, while doing private campaign consulting
work.
8. And she essentially turned her Council office into an extension of Cotters
private consulting firm, Bullhorn Consulting, in order to benefit him
financially and to keep him quiet about their relationship, which hes on
record threatening to expose.
While I dont have time, in this setting, to go into all the details of the corruption
associated with Pearce, Cotter, Cotters successor as chief of staff, and Bullhorn
Consulting, they can be found at RecallPearce.org. The District Attorneys
corruption investigation remains ongoing.
Due to the severity of Councilmember Pearces conduct, it had been my hope,
and the hope of many others, that she would do what was best for the district and
resign. It is obvious at this point that she will not, that putting her constituents
before herself has never been under consideration.
Accordingly, we the residents of the 2nd District are left with no other recourse
but to seek Councilmember Pearces recall and removal from office.
According to California Elections Code 11021, a copy of the notice of intention
shall be served by personal delivery, or by certified mail, on the officer sought to
be recalled.
Councilmember Pearce, please consider yourself served.

LAST LINE, ONLY IF SHES NOT PRESENT:

Since Councilmember Pearce has evaded personal service by her absence
tonight, she will be served by mail first thing tomorrow morning.
