Diabetes

I picked this topic as my second research paper because my mother was diagnosed with

type 2 diabetes for almost to 8 to 9 years. It was genetic because my grandma had diabetes since

I was little and then further on, my mother got it. The other family members that got diabetes

genetic was my grandpa and my uncle. Diabetes is in my family history but I am thankful that I

didnt get it and that would have been hard on me to handle the whole situation of it.

I have learned about diabetes because of my mother with her diabetes for almost 8 to 9

years of her life. She has taught me to realize that diabetes isnt easy to calm it down or know

what to do if her blood sugar pressure went up high. I have learned how she pricks her finger into

a diabetic machine to tell her if her blood pressure went up or went down. Sometimes it was high

so she eat and drink less sugary things but sometimes it was low so she felt she was alright

during the process.

Diabetes is a disease where your blood glucose is too high. Your blood glucose is your

main source of energy and come from the foods you eat. The insulin is a hormone made by the

pancreas helps glucose from the food get into your cells to be used for energy. Having too much

glucose in your blood can cause serious problems. It can damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves.

There are many different types of Diabetes. The first one is Type 1 diabetes is the

younger generation. The causes for type 1 diabetes is the younger generation immunes system

attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that makes the insulin. It is caused by genes and

environmental factors such as viruses that can trigger the disease. Usually it is diagnosed in
children and young adults even although it can appear at any age. They have to take their insulin

every single day because that is how they can keep themselves alive.

The second one is Type 2 diabetes; it can be at any age even during childhood. This type

of diabetes occurs mostly often in middle-aged and older generation. It is caused by several

factors which includes lifestyle factors and genes. If they are type 2 diabetes, their body isnt

fully developed to make the insulin or use the insulin well. Their body either resists the effects of

insulin which is the hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells.

The third one is Gestational diabetes; it is developed in some women when they are

pregnant. This kind of diabetes goes away after the baby is born. It is caused by the hormonal

changes of the pregnancy with genetic and lifestyle factors. Gestational diabetes can cause blood

sugar levels to become too high for the womens body. If anyone has gestational diabetes, you do

have a greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes later in the future.

The fourth one is Monogenic diabetes. It is caused by mutations or changes in a single

gene. Those changes usually passed on through generations of families but sometimes the gene

mutation happens on its own. It causes diabetes by making the pancreas less able to make the

insulin for their bodies. The most common types of monogenic diabetes are neonatal diabetes

and maturity-onset diabetes of the young. Neonatal diabetes occurs when its first 6 months of

their life, and MODY usually diagnose during adolescence or early adulthood but sometimes the

disease is not diagnosed later in the future.

The last one is prediabetes. It causes their blood glucose levels higher than normal but not

as high enough to merit a diabetes diagnosis. Their cells in their bodies are resisting to the
insulin. The doctors indicated that even at the prediabetes stage, there could be damage to the

circulatory system and their heart may already have occurred.

Diabetes is very common around the United States; it is around 30.3 million people that

can grab diabetes. More than 1 in 4 of people in the United States didnt realize they had that

disease in their bodies. Around 90-95% of cases in adults are type 2 diabetes because the age

limit. Diabetes is a metabolism disorder and it refers to the way our bodies are used to digest

food for energy and growth. Their glucose cant enter their cells without the insulin being

present- insulin is the solution to make it possible for their cells to take in the glucose.

There are three tests to know if you have diabetes or not. The first test to know is the

A1C test where it is a blood test that provides information about your average levels of blood

glucose. The second test to know is the FPG test where it is a simple blood test taken after

several hours of fasting. The third test to know is the OGTT where it is a test where people with

a fasting blood glucose level that is high but not high enough to meet the diagnosis for diabetes.

The symptoms for diabetes are increased thirst and urination, increased hunger, fatigue,

blurred vision, numbness or tingling in the feet or hands, sores that dont heal and unexplained

weight loss. Symptoms for type 1 diabetes starts quickly in matter of weeks, symptoms for type 2

diabetes starts to develop slowly over several years and can be mild that you might not even

notice. Many people with type 2 diabetes have no symptoms to worry about.

Diabetes isnt a disease to play with, it is a disease that can affect our blood pressure and

our whole body. Many people in the world might think diabetes wont affect our bodies or think

it is okay to eat many sugary foods. It is not okay to eat sugary foods while being diabetic
because then you can suffer medical conditions. It can affect our ability to do the things we do

every single day.

Treatment for diabetes is best when you have a good team by your side. You need health

professionals to help you succeed at the treatment. The professionals you need are a foot doctor,

nutritionist, eye doctor, and a diabetes specialist, which called an endocrinologist. The treatment

for diabetes requires keeping close watch over your blood sugar levels with a combination of

medications, exercise, and eating healthy.

By paying close attention to what and when you eat, you can minimize or avoid the

seesaw effect of rapidly changing blood sugar levels. Sometimes people use a computerized

pump called an insulin pump that gives them their insulin on a set basis. You and your doctor

can program the pump to deliver a certain amount of insulin throughout the day. In addition, you

can program the pump to deliver a certain amount of the insulin based on your body sugar level

before you eat.

The way to cure diabetes is easy to handle. The first way to cure it is absolutely no

snacking between meals. The second way to cure it is limit meal times to 1 hour or less with at

least 12 hours between the end of dinner and beginning of breakfast. The third way to cure it is

use additional tricks to accelerate your escape from diabetes and obesity.

Diabetes is a very serious disease in this world; it can affect anyone at any age. All we

have to do is take care of ourselves. We have to knowledge that it can be deadly and scary at the

time but we can overcome it by watching what we eat and what we drink in our bodies. Diabetes

is probably a solution to teach us that having sugary things in our bodies can be good and bad at

the same time.
