...Among Other Things

- Facilitate the transmutation of base

metals into gold

Most notably-
Today we will be turning lead into
gold-
kind of.
To do this we will be combining:

- Lead Nitrate
- Potassium Iodide
Both of these Compounds are Soluble
Salts
Salts = Ionic compounds formed in a neutralization
reaction between an acid and a base
- The crystal lattice of soluble salts is ripped apart when put into
water - in the case of table salt this leaves the individual Sodium
Chloride ions to dissipate evenly throughout the water
Precipitation Reaction

Precipitation refers to a chemical reaction that occurs in aqueous solution when two
ions bond together to form an insoluble salt, which is known as the precipitate.
A precipitation reaction refers to the formation of an insoluble salt when two solutions
containing soluble salts are combined. The insoluble salt that falls out of solution is
known as the precipitate, hence the reactions name. Precipitation reactions can help
determine the presence of various ions in solution. A solubility table can be used to
predict precipitation reactions.
Double Displacement Reaction
Molarity
What is a mole?

A mole is a unit that describes a specific number of

things.

Just like a dozen = 12 things,

1 mole = 6.02x10^23 (602 hexillion) things.

Calculating Moles Part 1
1. First, you find the molar mass. This is a measured in grams per mol
(or grams/mol). This is how many grams one mol of this molecule
would weigh.
2. This is easy to find! You just look at the atomic mass and add it up!
3. So, for water, there is 2 H atoms, 1 O atom. H is 1.00 and O is
about 16.00 on the periodic table, so its molecular mass is 18.00.
4. Now, you try it for CO2. .
Calculate Part 2
How many moles of water are in 10 grams of water?
To solve this, we need 2 of the 3 values below. Do we
know 2 out of the 3...which ones?

Making 1 M NaOh for the luminol group. M means Molar and it is the
concentration of moles of something in a solution. The units are
mol/Liter. This is how I created my recipe to make 1 M NaOH (show
