Summary: This was a letter written by Alexander Hamilton to Harrison Grey Ortis during the
events of the election in 1800. Alexander Hamilton wanted to him and the public to
vote for Thomas Jefferson out of his hatred for Aaron Burr.

First Excerpt Mr . Burr loves nothing but himself thinks of nothing but his own aggrandizement

Significance hands No compact, that he should make with any [struck: other] passion in his
[struck: own] breast except [struck: his] Ambition, could be relied upon by himself
How then should we be able to rely upon any agreement with him?

this signifies how Hamilton perceives Burr as selfish and greedy and how if he
becomes president he will be granted almost unlimited power, but doesnt deserve
it.

Second If Mr . Jefferson is likely from predilection for France to draw the Country into War

Significance
In this excerpt, I can see Hamiltons hatred towards Burr and how hes assuming
that what Burrs personal intent is for becoming president.

Third Excerpt whom I am personally well and in respect to whose character I have had peculiar
and Its opportunities of forming a correct judgment. By no means, my Dear Sir, let the
Significance Federalists be responsible for his Elevation In a choice of Evils let them take the
least Jefferson is in every view less dangerous than Burr.

With Hamilton stating that Jefferson is in every view less dangerous than Burr how
little he respects Aaron Burr and how much of a threat he could pose to be towards
the country if he becomes president.
