CONCERT SUMMARY

Putri Anak (August 23,2017)

Putri anak is a comedy that is based on various tales or myths found across Asia and the
Philippines. The music is composed by Doctor De La Pena and under the direction of Professor
Katherine Trangco. What Im interested in is the fusion of Asian instruments and the vocal
ensemble.

2017 Piano Competition Leonor Kilayko

Last September 26, 2017 its my first time to watch a piano competition. I must say all of them
really played well. This is my first time to watch a piano competition and i think it was intense
for a college level competition.

College Of Music Centennial 2017

UP college of musics traditional event that closes the year-long celebration of its centennial
year. On this event i get to watch most of the groups in our home college, like the UP Jazz, UP
Tugma, and the UP Concert Chorus and etc.

Exchanges
First of the two concerts that the UP Center for Ethnomusicology held in the Abelardo Hall
Auditorium last 25th of September to celebrate the 100th birth year of National Artist Jose
Maceda. As a first time listener of avant-garde music, I am sorry to tell that I am still not
prepared to grasp the idea of this kind of music.

Swan Lake

This is my first time watching a ballet concert with live music, performed by the ABS-CBN
Philharmonic Orchestra. Both of the performers are amazing especially the orchestra who
enhanced the enchanting classical ballet. This

Romancing the Classics

As part of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) 35th Concert Season, They featured
cellist Ray Wang as their soloist. I like his style of playing especially the articulation of his left
hand no wonder he is famous across Asia.
Credo

This is the first time Ive watched and performed for a choral conducting recital, this time for
Mark Abesia. To be honest i find his piece really confusing but in general we were able to pull
the recital.

Romancing the Classics

Another performance by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) for their 35th concert
season, this time the orchestra was under the baton of Gerard Salonga. And they performed the
works of Gershwin, John Williams, and Antonin Dvorak. To be honest i really like their
performance especially the Porgy and Bess by Gershwin.

Tugma X

This year the UP Tugma celebrates their 10th year anniversary. I was amazed by their
performance because theyre mixing Chinese, and Japanese instruments with our own tribal
music, you can also hear the Asian instruments well as they have good sense of balance.

Handels Messiah 2017

Last Thursday and Friday (December 7 and 8, 2017) we performed G.F. Handels Messiah as
part of the Christmas tradition here in the University of the Philippines. It was under the baton of
Doctor Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng. My most favorite part in the performance is the overture
because everyone played really well and everything is in sync.
