PC Setup Procedure (Windows 10)

PLEASE NOTE: The default browser for Windows 10 is Microsoft Edge. Edge will eventually replace
Microsoft's Internet Explorer but for now both browsers are available with Windows 10.

As the Fernwood Intranet is not currently fully compatible with Microsoft Edge please use Microsoft
Internet Explorer for FCM and Citrix POS.

The following procedure describes the steps involved in setting up a Fernwood computer that is running a
Windows 10 operating system. Please call the Fernwood IT Help Desk (03 9630 8843) if you require
assistance.

Before starting please ensure your Control Panel has View by: Small icons selected.

Steps to setup your PC:


1. Basic PC security
 Windows Password, create a password for your Windows login by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and
choose the Change a password option
 Password-enabled screensaver as follows:

Control Panel > Personalisation > Screen Saver >


 Windows Firewall
Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Turn Windows Firewall On or Off > set as ON:

Note: The above screen shot may look different depending on your operating system

 Install Sophos Antivirus software via one of the following options:


i. If your computer has been added to the Fernwood domain, please call the IT Help
Desk for assistance.

ii. If your computer has NOT been added to the Fernwood domain, please install the
unmanaged version of Sophos by clicking the link below, save the savinst.exe file
before running it.

2. PC Settings
 Regional Settings - Set the country/regional settings to English (Australia) and set the
relevant time/date/timezone
i. Control Panel > Region > check the Format, Location and Administrative tabs
ii. Control Panel > Date and Time >

 Network Settings - If your club is on the Fernwood private network, please call the Fernwood
IT Help Desk to add your PC to the domain
 Configure Windows Update to install Updates automatically:

Start Menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options > choose
how Windows can install updates > choose Updates to install automatically, and tick Give
me updates for Other Microsoft products when I update Windows

3. Install the latest versions of the following software. Please do not install bundled-in software that is
offered with the installations:

Software Website

Adobe Reader www.adobe.com

Adobe Flash (not for Windows 10) www.adobe.com

Adobe Shockwave www.adobe.com

Java www.java.com

Citrix Receiver www.citrix.com

Google Chrome www.google.com.au/chrome

4. Pin the Internet Explorer icon, , to the desktop taskbar:


 In the Cortana Search Box type Internet and hit enter
 Right-click on Internet Explorer and click Pin to Taskbar

5. Unpin the Edge icon, , from the desktop taskbar:


 Right-click on the Edge icon and select Unpin from Taskbar

6. Set Internet Explorer as the default browser:


 Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs > Click Internet Explorer > click Set
this program as default and then click OK

7. Setup Internet Explorer for FCM and Citrix POS access as follows:
 Add the Fernwood Intranet url (https://admin.fernwoodfitness.com.au) as the browsers
home page via:
i. Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Home page setting

 Add the Fernwood Intranet to the browsers trusted sites list:


i. Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Trusted sites > Sites
button:
 https://admin.fernwoodfitness.com.au
 https://admin2.fernwoodfitness.com.au
 https://admin3.fernwoodfitness.com.au
 Set custom level security for ActiveX controls in Trusted Sites:

i. Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > Trusted sites > Custom
level > change these ActiveX controls settings to Prompt and click OK:

 Add the following sites into Compatibility View Settings:

i. Internet Explorer > Tools > Compatibility View Settings > add these websites into the list:
 fernwoodfitness.com.au
 chameleongroup.com.au
 impactdata.com.au
8. Launch Citrix POS (https://access.fernwoodfitness.com.au) via Internet Explorer and reply to the
following prompts as follows:

9. Google Chrome settings:


 Google Chrome > Click the icon > Settings > On start-up > Open a specific page or set of
pages >
i. https://mincs.fernwoodfitness.com.au
ii. https://28daybreakthru.fernwoodfitness.com.au
iii. https://www.fernwoodfitness.com.au
iv. https://memberslounge.fernwoodfitness.com.au
10. Cash Drawer and CitrixCameraHelper
 Please contact IT Help Desk to provide the cash drawer driver and install it for you.
 For compatibility with Citrix POS you will need to run the CitrixCameraHelper program.
Download CitrixCameraHelper.exe from https://www.fernwoodfitness.com.au/apps. On
initial setup please create a folder called CitrixHelper on the computers C:\ drive and install
the application here.

Please note: If you plan to upload member photos directly via POS, rather than via MINCS, you will
need to run the CitrixCameraHelper to make the webcam compatible with Citrix POS.

11. Microsoft Outlook


 Control Panel > Mail(32-bit) > Add a profile [use a meaningful name, e.g. Melbournecityadmin]

 Complete Auto Account Setup settings as shown below and then click Next:
 When Outlook prompts for a password please first ensure the username field is in the format
of domainname\accountname as is shown in the example below, then enter the password
and click Next:

 Click Finish to complete the setup of your Fernwood email account in Outlook:
