According to Essential II: Basic Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Care
and Patient Safety Knowledge and skills in leadership, quality improvement, and patient safety
are necessary to provide high quality health care for the community. Providing a safer health care
means making the patient feel safe by receiving fully informed knowledgeable care. The health
care system can continue to grow to be able to provide care by highly skilled knowledgeable
professional leaders. One of the toughest skills in the leadership role is being a resource person
for almost everything. As a professional leader nurse one has to know that knowledge is power
and guidance for others. Patient safety knowledge is obtained when the patient is the center of
the care and all the clinicians work around the patient needs by keeping in mind the patients
safety as the number one priority to improve quality of their care. In order to continue to provide
care for the patients the leadership has to make sure that the system is operating in a safe manner
via quality improvement processes. Quality improvement is one of the most important aspects of
health care next patients therefore as a leader one has to be knowledgeable enough to provide
systems. Each encounter with a patient has to be evaluated in order to meet guidelines and
criteria for different reasons from state to national level. Nurses are featured and acknowledged,
by the institute of Medicine (IOM), as the leaders and agents who will transform the health care
system ((Sullivan,2012). The IOM is one of the agencies that provide recommendations for the
health care system by providing guidance and being resource as essential II speaks in order to

provide quality patient care it is important to have skilled knowledgeable leaders which can
increase patients satisfaction. As a leader one not only have to be knowledgeable but also have
to hold the skills that are required to lead a team. First as covered in the leadership project,
creative implementation the leader has to identify their own personal limits. By knowing their
own personal limits leaders would know when a situation arises and when to contact the next
person for assistance of any kind. Initially identifying the personality styles of a leader would
allow the leader to identify his/ her own weakness as well (Sullivan,2012). Being transparent as
a leader is very important as a lot of people depend on your words of promise. As a leader
knowing personal weaknesses and strengths will allow better communication and better
interaction with the team. Knowledgeable leaders know their characteristics which can be
influenced by who is within the surrounding. In the Leadership project personal characteristics
were noted as personal characteristics of a leader can impact how the team will present each day.
