INTRODUCTION:-

INDIA, THE COLOURFUL AND VIBRANT

LAND, AS DIVERSE AS ITS PEOPLE, STANDS
AS ONE OF THE OLDEST CIVILIZATION
WHICH OFFERS VARIETY OF ART AND
CULTURE AND POTPOURRI OF TRADITIONS.

ART

Is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the

senses or emotions.
It encompasses a diverse range of human activities ,creations, and modes of
expressions including music, literature, sculpture, art paintings.

ART&CRAFT VILLAGE

The concern of the village and its environment works as the backbone of this
complex.it not only provides an improved working environment to artists but will also
contributes to the urban level functions that a living city requires.

SCOPE

To understand the relationship between built environment and open spaces.The

design would focus upon landscaping and would stress upon the relationship with its
immediate surrounding.
The village would serve as a cultural focal point of the region.
The design would connect it to surrounding structures, yet maintains a capitative
presence through its sitting, massing, materials and internal organization.

AIM

To create an environment for the promotion of the traditional art and craft which are
fast dying due to onslaught of the industrial products.

OBJECTIVES
To enhance the quantity and quality of art and craft works and to promote them at the urban
scale.

To establish a centre to promote the traditional performing and visual arts and also
handicrafts works.

To satisfy the above objectives creating required functional spaces along with the
recreational facilities.
REASON FOR SELECTION OF TOPIC:-
The Indian art and craft makes it a famous tourist destination. People love to shop in
India for the versatility it provides in the art and craft varying through regions.

A centre or platform through which culture and art can be promoted. To provide an
amalgamation of handicrafts, food and cultural activities.

A centre that is educating public on indigenous traditions and at the same time to bridge
the gap between the craftsmen and the purchaser, giving better opportunity for the
artisan/craftsman for marketing.

.CHALLENGES:-
The connections between rural and urban centres and the poor infrastructural setup
leave the customers with limited choice to explore all such diversified handicrafts.

Hence artisans development is necessary and it has been selected as my

thesis project.
CASE STUDY 1-JAWAHAR KALA KENDRA
Jawahar Kala Kendra is an arts and crafts centre located
in the city of jaipur dedicated to late prime minister of
India Jawaharlal Nehru.

The centre was built in the year 1986 and the

construction was completed in 1991

the cultural centre was launched by state government to

provide space to the cultural & spiritual values of india
and display the rich craft heritage.

CONCEPT OF PLANNING
Designed by Charles Correa, centre is an analogue of the original
city plan of Jaipur. The plan is guided by Shilpa Shastras based on
the vedic mandala of nine squares which represent nine planets.

DERIVATION OF PLANNING FORM

Due to the presence of hill one of the square was transposed to the
east and two of the squares were amalgamated.

Navgraha mandala with the symbols A volumetric model

in their respective squares or houses Each dimension is 30m x
30m x 8m
FUNCTIONALITY OF SPACES

ALLOTMENT OF SPACES:-
Each square was linked to the
planet as per characteristics of
the particular planet and its
astrological values and the
functionality of the square.

8m high walls of squares are

symbolic of the fortification
wall along the jaipur city.
ZONING:-
 FUNCTION OF EACH FACILITY PROVIDED IN THE COMPLEX
1. RURAL MUSEUM-
This museum designed in a typical Indian village. Over 15
life-size huts, authentically constructed out of backed clay
and thatch,depict rural or tribal lifestyles and the life of
various artisans. It provides a window to rural life for city
dwellers and those who have never visited a village before

2.PRAKRUTI RAGA (ROCK MUSEUM)

Scenic rock garden that draws people seeking peace
&relaxation. With many exhibits in the natural rock
formations, for each formation of rock they had given
a name of various animals, birds etc.

3.AMPHITHEATRE(O.A.T.)
It provides the perfect ambience for the people to relax and
enjoy a variety of cultural programs including classical music,
dance folk art performance every weekend. With 1,000
people capacity.
4.GRAMEENA( FOOD COURT

It is a pure vegetarian restaurant with an

ethnic feel.

It is multifunctional hall provided for the family

function like marriages etc. With the capacity of
2,500 people.

5.MAIN LAWN
The hitec city is dominated by tall concrete
structures, the green lawns in complex are a
welcome change for everyone.

This lawn dotted by ethnic motifs, terracotta

Sculptures.

KONASEEMA-

A picturesque lakeside setting for private parties

for between 150 and 200 people.

It is a replica of the lush delta of coastal Andhra

Pradesh. An coconut trees which give nice
feeling of coastal area.
 SERVICES-
Water supply is ensured by Hyderabad metro water board,2 large bore wells, natural
lakes which is used for boating.

Spilt air conditioning in office, centralization air conditioning facility in auditorium was
provided.

Already existing service lines for the drainages

Four transformers are provided in the complex.

ROOFING DETAILS.
L- steel section were used to support roof. Bamboo used as batten over that bamboo mat
was used. These mats were covered with dried grass

For the larger span steel column & trusses are used to support roof. To improve Aesthetic
quality structural members are cladded with bamboo slates.

In the village museum some of the structure are in mud walls & some of walls constru-
cted with clay pots & mud used as a plaster.
