ATF purging procedure

Procedure
A normal ATF change involves replacing only approx. 55 ... 60 % of the total ATF in the gearbox.
The “ATF purging procedure” has to be employed if all the old ATF in the gearbox is to be
removed.
ATF purging is always necessary when performing the following work:
t Renewing the input shaft
t Servicing the input shaft
This involves performing the road test twice, as described below, and then changing the ATF.
This is the only way to ensure complete renewal of the ATF in the gearbox.
The work required for the ATF purging procedure is described below in seven steps.

Caution
Risk of damage to gearbox
It is important to exactly follow all the described steps.
– Fill up with ATF after installing gearbox → Chapter „Filling up with ATF (for ATF purging
procedure)“.
Purging ATF
1. → Chapter „Road test (for ATF purging procedure)“.
2. → Chapter „Draining ATF (for ATF purging procedure)“.
3. → Chapter „Filling up with ATF (for ATF purging procedure)“.
4. → Chapter „Road test (for ATF purging procedure)“.
5. → Chapter „Draining ATF (for ATF purging procedure)“.
6. → Chapter „Filling up with ATF (for ATF purging procedure)“.
Check and correct ATF level → multitronic 0AW, front-wheel drive; Rep. gr.37; ATF;
7.
Checking ATF level.

Note
Observe all notes and test requirements for “Checking and correcting ATF level”.
Checking the ATF level completes the purging procedure.
