Recommended Working Pressure Ratings for Super Seal Five-Wiper Cementing Plugs
II Float Equipment & Five-Wiper Cementing Plugs
The Five-Wiper cementing plug line is Halliburton’s primary
This specification outlines general reasons for using cementing cementing plug. Five-Wiper plugs are available with standard
plugs and float equipment during cementing operations. Also, plastic, aluminum, and 24-Tooth NR (non-rotating) plastic inserts

Super Seal II float equipment are provided in Table 1. This Plastic Five-Wiper cement plugs (i.e. standard plastic or 24-Tooth
specification supercedes any and all previously published pressure NR plastic) can be used for most conditions. Plastic Five-Wiper

drillable.
A general discussion is provided explaining how the pressure
ratings should be calculated along with other information related to NOTE: Aluminum Five-Wiper cement plugs ARE NOT PDC

CAUTION: Do not land cement plugs directly on float shoes. If the plugs

placed in the annulus shoe track area. This could result in a poor cement job

following reasons: surface after the top plug has landed on the float equipment, use
equation 1.
• To remove mud sheath in the casing
• To separate fluids in the casing Ps = Pwp - P2 + P1 (See terms below) Equation 1
• To prevent overdisplacement of slurry
• To provide surface indication when job is complete Sub-Surface Release (SSR) Cementing Plugs
• To pressure-test casing
SSR plugs are available in 7-20 in. casing sizes in each of the Five-
Wiper cement plug types (i.e. plastic, aluminum and 24-tooth NR)
Halliburton Super Seal II Float Equipment should be used for the as either top only or top and bottom plug set.
following reasons:
SSR equipment is primarily used for the following reasons.
• To prevent re-entry of cement into the casing after
displacement • For use with semi-submersible ships or drill ships
• To provide landing seat for cementing plugs • To eliminate the need for casing between rig floor and ocean floor
• To guide casing into hole • To wipe both drill pipe, casing and/or liner
• To provide casing buoyancy • To eliminate the need for large-diameter plug containers

See SSR Manual 809.31099 (100074508) for further details.

High-Strength Float Equipment and Cementing Plugs

For applications where pressures are applied to test casing to high

pressures (i.e. in excess of pressure ratings of standard Five-Wiper
cement plugs), High-Strength float systems are available in the sizes
listed in the High-Strength column of Table 1, page 2.

Rated Backpressure Capabilities of Float Equipment

Rated Backpressure is the maximum differential pressure that

standard Super Seal II float equipment should be subjected to. See
Figure 1 and equation 2.

Pbp = P1 - P2 (See terms below) Equation 2

Where

• Ps = Surface pressure that can safely be applied.

• Pwp = Recommended working pressure shown in Table 1.
• P1 = Hydrostatic pressure in the annulus at the float collar.
• P2 = Hydrostatic pressure above the top plug.
P1 = Pressure of heated test fluid in annulus. • Pbp = Rated Backpressure.
P2 = Pressure of fluid above cementing plugs.

• Table 1 based on Halliburton Super Seal II float equipment and Halliburton Five-Wiper cementing plugs (Surface release as well as Sub Surface Release).
• Listed pressures may exceed pressure limits of casing or pumping equipment and are provided indicate the operating limits of the equipment.
• Pressure ratings are subject to change without notice. Contact Halliburton Technology for possible revisions.
• The 2 ¾ valve is rated at 10 BPM for 24 hours (API RP 10F flow rating of category III) and the 4 ¼ valve is rated at 25 BPM for 24 hours. The 2 ¼ valve
