Unit Title: Triangular Puzzles Name: Shianne Dirschel

Content Area: Geometry Grade Level: 9th Grade
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
Similarity, Right Triangles, and Trigonometry
§ Understand similarity in terms of similarity transformations.
§ Prove theorems involving similarity.
§ Define trigonometric ratios and solve problems involving similar triangles.
§ Apply trigonometry to general triangles
Big Ideas/Unit Goals:
•How can we identify similar triangles in our everyday lives?
•How can similar triangles help us solve problems and puzzles they we may encounter in our lives outside of school, and in our mathematics future?
Unit Summary:
We are going to first explore similar triangles and they're properties. Following that, we will delve into the different methods that we can use to identify similar triangles. Lastly, we will tie this information together to solve real world problems and some fun brain
teasers for the young mathematician!

Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: Formative: Summative:
• Discussion – Before Lesson One takes place, we will have video chat class discussion on • Guided Notes – Students follow the guided notes during the lesson one • Graphic Organizer – Students are to create a graphic organizer

we will combine all flashcards into a class sized super pack where
students will play Quizlet games testing their knowledge.
• Quiz – After lesson three, students will take a quiz rehearsing all
theorems from the unit, and completing exercises like the ones shown in
lesson one. This will be completed through an online source like
QuizStar.
• Webercize – Students gather information by visiting three sites on the
internet in order to complete a guided Webercize assignment. This
assignment requires them to manipulate new tools learned and
reperform famous proofs. This takes place as lesson two. This exercise
will clearly define students troubles on using the information given
them.
