Dear Rafters & Parents,

As part of your son’s/daughters Nam Wa Descent, your son/daughter


will be undertaking a familiarization and training weekend on:

Friday 8th October Depart NIST at 3pm,


Return on

Saturday 9th October by 1930 hrs.

Venue: The Wild Lodge – Khao Ito

This is a compulsory part of this year 11 Silver IYA Trip.


If students are unable to complete the training, they will still be
allowed to attend the trip to the Nam Wa, however, they will not be
assessed for the adventurous journey section of the Silver level
International award for Young People. (IYA Requirements)

Students will participate in a range of White Water Rafting, Camp craft


& Safety activities. The aims of the training expedition are to develop
student's abilities to work with others, be self-reliant, and develop a
rational approach to staged emergency situations.

Students will be camping and involved in food preparation throughout


the training days.

The trip will be lead by Mr. Graham Wardle, Mr. Simon Millward &
Mr. Neil Commons along with several other NIST Staff and the
training team from The Wild Planet.

An outline Itinerary and suggested equipment list is attached.

Itinerary

Friday 1500 Depart NIST, travel to The Wild Lodge,


1730 Students pitch tents.

1830 - Evening Meal BBQ


1915 – The Nam Wa Descent
IYA Silver Award & Log Books
2045 Free Time
2130 Into tents/lights out

Saturday

0615 Rise/take down tents


0700 Breakfast
0800 Depart for Khao Ito Reservoir Activity Groups 1 & 2
1100 Students in pre-set groups Cook Lunch, beside reservoir
1230 Activity Groups 1 & 2 swap over
1530 Transfer to The Wild Lodge Shower/Change
1630 Depart for NIST ETA 1930 hrs.
