1.0. Scope

1.1. This specification covers the basic requirements for the materials of the piping system in Two(2) x 500MW
Mong Duong I Thermal Power Plant, Vietnam.

1.2. This specification shall be applied to piping materials indicated on P&I diagrams. Piping systems, however,
which are furnished, as a regular part of proprietary or standard equipment (or package facility) shall be in
accordance with the equipment supplier's standard provided that the equipment supplier’s standard meets the
requirements of the Contract.

1.3. When the piping is connected to equipment, this specification shall be applied to the extent indicated below;
1) Companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts at the equipment nozzle.
2) Companion flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts at the matching point between the piping furnished as a part
of equipment by its supplier and that provided by purchaser.
3) First shutoff valve with companion flange, gaskets, bolts and nuts in the instrument connecting line.

Note. "First or Second shutoff valve" in instrument connecting line as used herein shall mean the nearest valve to
a line to which the instrument is connected.

1.4. This piping material classification shall not be applied to specially designed companion flanges, gaskets, bolts
and nuts at the equipment nozzles.

2.0. Codes and Standards

2.1. Design, fabrication, testing and inspection of piping materials shall be accomplished in accordance with the
following listed Codes and Standards including revision and addenda in effect at the time of execution of the contract.
If conflict between the requirements of contract and Code & standards, the contract’s requirements shall govern.

2.2. Piping design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing etc. shall be in accordance with ASME B31.1 latest edition
unless otherwise specified.

2.3. All valves and pipe fittings material shall be as indicated in ASME and ASTM code or approved equivalent.

3.0. General Requirement

3.1. Unit

Unless otherwise specified, SI units shall be applied as the measurement system for the drawings and documents
to be submitted.

3.2. Standard Material

Material for individual piping components shall conform to the requirements of the applicable Codes and Standards
in para. 2.0.

3.3. Pipes

1) Dimensions of pipes shall be in accordance with the following standard.

ASME B36.10M : Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe


ASME B36.19M : Stainless Steel Pipe

2) Minimum wall thickness of straight pipe under internal pressure shall be designed in accordance with
paragraph 104.1.2 and 104.1.4 of ASME B31.1.

B 3) The corrosioin allowance for piping shall be applied as below ;


Where necessary, under corrosive or erosive operating conditions, an additional allowance of 1.5mm shall be
made to ensure that the piping systems concerned shall function satisfactorily over the life of the plant.

B 5) The allowance for thinning of pipe extraos for hot and cold bending piping shall be applied as below ;

6) Whenever stainless steel pipe are used, the associated fitting and valve shall also be stainless steel material.

3.4. Fittings

1) Dimension shall be as follows :

2) Fitting construction shall be as follows;

- DN50 and smaller : socket weld or screwed according to the individual specification class.
- DN65 and larger : butt weld

3) All screwed connections shall have taper threads in accordance with ASME B1.20.1 Pipe Threads,
General Purpose.
4) Long radius elbows shall be generally used for all piping, unless otherwise noted.

3.5. Flanges

1) Dimension shall be as follows :

2) All bolt holes shall be spot-faced for nuts.


3) The bore of welding neck flanges shall correspond to the inside diameter of the connecting pipe or fitting.

3.6. Gaskets

1) Dimensions shall be as follows :

ASME B16.20 : Metallic Gaskets for Pipe Flanges - Ring-Joint, Spiral-Wound, and Jacketed
ASME B16.21 : Nonmetallic Flat Gaskets for Pipe Flanges

2) The limiting dimensions of gaskets other than ring joint gaskets for ASME flanges shall be in accordance
with ASME B16.5, Appendix B.

3) Gasket dimensions for flanges larger than DN600 shall be in accordance with the flange standard specified
in the individual specification class.

3.7. Bolts and Nuts for Flange

1) Dimensional requirements of bolts and nuts for flange connection shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5
Table 1C as follows ;

2) The hot dip galvanized shall be applied according to ASTM A153, BS EN ISO 1461 and applicable standards for
design temperature 210i and below based on ASTM A193 Appendixes X2. Coatings and Application Limits.

B 3) All nuts, bolts and studs for pressure parts shall be stamped to identify the material grade and manufacturer.

3.8. Valves

1) Valve shall conform to the stipulated standards , but not limited to, as below ; ASME

B The valve assemblies shall be designed for the pressure and temperature ratings of the piping class specified
in the Piping Material Classification.

2) The material used for valve casings shall be compatible with the material of the related pipes, and comply
with the requirements of specified standards.

3) The actuating force to be exerted to the hand-wheels of valves under hot or cold condition must not exceed
18 kg force. Valves larger than DN 250 shall be geared to minimize effort and shall be, additionally,
provided with stub shafts, to permit manual application of a portable motor.

4) The manually operated valves in the sizes and pressure classes shown below shall be provided with a gear
operator as minimum. Handwheels shall be provided with provisions for pneumatic wrench operation.

5) All valves shall be fitted with outside screw rising spindles unless otherwise specified or approved.
Spindles of valves for outdoor use shall have weatherproof protection covers. In general all valves exposed
to the elements shall be corrosion resistant.

6) Hydrostatic testing for valves shall be in accordance with B16.34.

7) Nameplates shall be of stainless steel with engraved letters filled with black wax or enamel.

8) Any valve which is designed uni-directional flow shall have an arrow embossed or cast on the valve
body clearly indicating the required flow direction.

3.9. Pipeline Velocities

The following maximum fluid velocities or lower velocities, if necessary shall be used in the selection of piep sizes.
For pipe sizes between tabulated values, the velocities associated with the smaller pipe size shall be used.

In the selection of pipe sizes for the steam turbine bypass system, the velocities of continuous serviceshall be used.
The fuel oil and lubricating oil piping shall be sized based on flow rate, viscosity, and available or allowable head loss
rather than velocity criteria. As a secondary criteria, the maximum oil velocity shall not exceed 2.00 meters per second.

3.10. Design Criteria for Piping System

The following design criteria for piping have been considered as per the most stringent condition of the contract requirements
vendor data and maximum operating condition on heat balance diagrams.

8.1. Valves shall be in accordance with the applicable piping class sheet.

8.2. Double isolation globe valves shall be provided on vents and drains of system having pressure 40 bar and higher.

criteria differs from the data in Section 6.0.
Note that Section 6.0 is the same as specified in
MD1-0-P-400-02-00001.

system should include hot reheat as there
appears to be a section pipe between the control
valves and the turbine nozzles.

3 Section 6 – Where is the IP exhaust to LP


turbine inlet pipe? It should be in HB31.

4 Section 6 material classifications need to be


added to the appropriate steam turbine P&I
Diagrams.

5 Section 6 – P&I Diagram MD1-0-V-111-21-


00003 indicates pipe stubs for all extraction
connections so they should be included in
Section 6.

6 Section 6 – Why is the generator shaft seal


system listed in GB31 which has design
conditions of 20 bar and 365 deg C?
