Semester 2 Exam Review

Module 5: Realism Edition


• Know the characteristics of Realism, Naturalism, and Regionalism. (5.02)
• Know the writers of this period and their personal information. (5.03 – 5.06)
• Know the stories/videos related in this section and have a working knowledge of the story’s
content. (5.03- 5.06)
• Know the concepts presented in lesson 5.05 (Social Darwinism, Determinism, etc.)
• Be familiar with frontier dialect and the meaning of key words. (5.07a)
• Be familiar with literary devices: allusion, personification, local color, and symbol.
• Look over end of the module review quiz and find correct answers for any answers missed.

Module 6: Modern Edition


• Think about the following concepts presented in TKM: innocence, symbol of the
mockingbird, and the Scottsboro Boys’ Trials. (6.02)
• Know the writers of this period and their personal information. (6.02, 6.04, and 6.06)
• Know the stories/videos related in this section and have a working knowledge of the story’s
content. (6.02, 6.04, and 6.06)
• Know the following literary terms: onomatopoeia, personification, assonance, call and
response, and tone. (6.05)
• Know how Ellington’s music of the Harlem Renaissance influenced Hughes’s poetry. (6.05)
• Know the following information from the research paper: works cited page, parenthetical
citation, and signaling phrases. Know what each is and how it should be correctly used.
• Understand the concept of Pigasus. (6.04a and 6.04b)
• Look over end of the module review quiz and find correct answers for any answers missed.

Module 7: Contemporary Edition


• Know the writers of this period and their personal information. (7.02, 7.04, 7.06, and 7.07)
• Know the literature related in this section and have a working knowledge of the story’s
content. (7.02, 7.04, 7.05, 7.06, and 7.07)
• Understand what protest music is and be familiar with the examples given in this course.

• Be sure you’ve read/listened to King’s A Letter from Birmingham Jail and Kennedy’s
inaugural address and that you understand the content. (7.04)
• Know point of view…first person, third person omniscient, and third person limited. (7.05)
• Understand the word abstract.

Module 8: Final Edition


• Review lesson 8.01 questions and your responses.
• Review the information required of you to write your final letter to the editor in 8.06.
• Think about the following concepts and how they relate to the literature of the course:
personal freedom and literature and its relation to history.
