NOTICE: We are in the process of switch-
ing recycle material haulers to prevent the
overflowing dumpster caused by a missed
pick-up on the prior day. A similar problem
is that we have residents that are leaving
materials outside of the dumpster when it is
full. If the dumpster can not fit any more re-
cyclables, please do not drop them off. The
appearance of the clubhouse trash corral go-
ing forward will determine if we decide to
continue this program.

Creating Winter Interest in Your Landscape
Winter is here! Although the lush and colorful spring and summer plants have
faded, the winter landscape has a beauty of its own through texture, color and
movement. I have listed some plants that provide winter interest which might help
appreciate our winter in a new way! First are the evergreens which moved to the
forefront in winter. These trees provide food and cover for birds. Also, there are
ground cover evergreens that provide some green, such as low growing junipers,
evergreen ferns, wild ginger and hellebores.
Other plants of interest are:
Exfoliating Bark
Adding some of these to your landscape will definitely improve the view of winter
from your window!

Blackberry Tart
Remove crust from refrigerator. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook butter
in a small heavy saucepan over medium heat until melted and golden brown.
Blend eggs and sugar in large bowl. Add flour and vanilla and whisk just until
combined. Whisk in butter. Roll crust out as instructed on box. Fit into 9-inch
tart pan with removable bottom. Set tart shell on heavy baking sheet. Pour
filling into shell and bake until pastry and filling are golden brown, 30 to 35
minutes. Transfer tart to rack and cool completely. (Can be prepared 1 day
ahead. Cover with plastic and store at room temperature.) Melt jelly in small
saucepan over low heat. Brush 2 tablespoons jelly over filling. Arrange ber-
ries on top, covering filling completely. Brush remaining jelly over berries. Let
stand until jelly sets. Serve with whipped cream. Serves 8.
