The International Space Station (ISS) is in orbit around Earth at all times.
Building work started on it in 1998. Fifteen countries took part in the design and
building process. The first part of the ISS was completed in 2000. The first team,
an American and two Russians, went there in the same year. It was designed to
have only three scientists on board. The teams live and work there for about six
months, but the longest time spent there was a year. It is the largest artificial
satellite in Earth’s orbit – larger than any other space station.
