Personal Reflection
Pablo Picasso is a very interesting artist, when it comes to the artwork he created
throughout his life. His style is shown in every one of his painting, and there are many things that
are appealing about it. For one, each of his paintings can be identified in a different period since
they are all different. Some paintings are more realistic, while others are more abstract. This
creates a wide variety of artwork for all to observe. In addition, Picasso’s paintings all contain
different colors with reflect the period that they were created in. This is appealing, since there is
a variety of colors being used, not a single on the whole time. The colors add to the mood of the
paintings, and they show how he was feeling during that time. It also creates a more appealing
presentation, since he follows a color scheme in each one. Something that surprised me, is that
Picasso was depressed for around four to five years of his life. This was reflected in his artwork
in the Blue Period, since he used blue and blue-green shades to express sadness. There was no
joy in his paintings, but sadness and silence instead. Picasso however, did overcome his
depression and his works became more cheerful. It is surprising to see how this change was
reflected in his artwork afterwards, in the Circus Period, and would continue in the other periods
as well. The most interesting thing about Picasso’s artwork, if how the events in his life
influenced what he painted. This started with the suicide of his friend Casagemas, and continued
throughout World War I, the Spanish Civil War, World War II and many other events during his
life. Picasso was affected by the things happening around him, which shows the type of person
he was. He had a genuine care for the world, and the people around him. Pablo Picasso is a truly
inspiring artist, since he overcome many obstacles in his life and created many wonderful pieces
of artwork.
