TIPS AND GUIDES
1. There is no short cut. Refer to all the grammar skills in the Year 4, 5 and 6
KSSR DSKP.
2. All the skills in the DSKP focus on Parts of Speech which is what grammar
is all about.
3. Other grammatical items should be introduced and taught too, either in

context or in isolation depending on the circumstances.
4. Provide pupils with the list of proverbs, idioms, similes, antonym and
synonym of words.
5. Pupils need to be taught all the punctuation marks.
6. Use and refer to the Jadual Spesifikasi Indeks (JSI) when setting or
selecting questions for assessment.
7. The testing of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in comprehension

questions (16 -20) should have elements to encourage pupils to think and
to use the skills of applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating based on
information given in the text for them to do inference.

Despite being called ‘koala bear’ for many years, the koala is actually a
marsupial. Bears give birth to well-developed young. Newborn koalas,

A man and his son were on their way to the market to sell their donkey. Some
womwn saw them and said, “How stupid of them. They should ride on the donkey.”
The old man upon hearing this, told his son to mount on the donkey.
After a short distance, a group of men saw them. They said, “Look! The son
has no respect for his father. The old man has to walk while he rides in comfort.”
Upon hearing this, the old man asked his son to dismount. He then got on to the
donkey instead. They went along the road happily.
After a while, they saw a group of old men. They were sitting under a shady
tree. When they saw them they said, “Look at them. They both should be riding on
the donkey.” The men heard what they said and thought how stupid he was. So he
told his son to mount on the donkey and together they rode along the road.
They came to another group of men. “How cruel of them to ride on a donkey,”
they said. Finally they dismounted and carried the donkey instead. As they crossed a
bridge, the donkey fell into the river and it drowned.
