AlfaTest CSG offers a diverse range of electro fusion mechanical testing services including ISO 13954 Peel
Decohesion Testing ISO 13955 Crush Testing ISO 13956 Decohesion testing of Saddle fusion joints.

ISO13954 – Peel decohesion testing of electrofusion welded pipes – sizes 90mm and above
Plastics pipes and fittings - peel decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies of nominal outside diameter greater than or equal to 90 mm.

ISO 13954 describes a peel test for determining the decohesive resistance of polyethylene (PE) electrofusion socket assemblies. The sample is subjected to tensile stress, which cause progressive
separation of the fused interface. The decohesive strength of the assembly is characterized by the nature of the failure in the pipe and coupling. A qualitative assessment of the weld strength can be carried
out from the type of failure observed during the tensile test. A good weld, failure is characterised by material stretched in a “pasty” form or filament formation and is referred to as a ductile failure. Brittle
failure (or a mix of both brittle and ductile failure) is characterised by smooth, non-stretched surface with very little drawing of the material and failure occurs at a much lower load.

ISO13955 – Crush decohesion testing of electrofusion welded pipe – sizes 16mm to 225mm
An alternative test for EF joints instead of ISO 13954.
This method is applicable to assemblies with pipes or nominal outside diameter between 16mm and 225mm. In this test the specimen is clamped horizontally and the pipe stub subjected to a compressive
load in a vertical axis and separated using a lever, the ductility of the fracture surface is then assessed.

ISO13956 – Decohesion test of polyethylene saddle fusion joint

A test method for the evaluation of the ductility of the fusion joint interface of assemblies of polyethylene pipe and electro fusion or heated tool saddles.

A Load is applied to saddle of an assembly until failure occurs. The ductility of the joint interface is characterised by the appearance of the failure in the fusion plane and by the determination of the
percentage of decohesion.
